    Converting Oriental Adventures creatures

Those sizes didn't exist in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. First Edition AD&D had Small, Man-sized and Large. Second Edition AD&D had Tiny, Small, Man-sized, Large, Huge and Gargantuan. I'm leaning towards making them Tiny to keep their vulnerability to normal weapon damage.

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Updated the Efreeti Firelord Working Draft. So all we have left is the Description?

    Kraken Variants

Yeah, we might as well leave the trample damage as is. You're expecting consistency in AD&D mechanics?! o_O

    Converting True Dragons

Let's see, what did we give Pearl the Moon Dragon: Skills: Appraise +36, Balance +6, Bluff +62, Concentration +63, Diplomacy +74, Disguise +37 (+43 acting), Gather Information +62, Intimidate +68, Jump +37, Knowledge (arcana) +35, Knowledge (history) +35, Knowledge (nature) +17, Knowledge...

5E: Completed Fifth Edition Creatures Index

Okay, I don't think I'll bother transcribing your 2024 format versions here since I'm lazy. Maybe if I get really bored I'll add them on sometime but I don't feel any rush. Gosh, is Fifth Edition really eleven years old now? Doesn't time fly.

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Assuming its round's attacks are three Fiery Falchions for 29½ damage each, plus a 14 damage bonus action, a 9 damage Reaction, Legendaries worth 18 damage and it's set two opponents on fire for 11 damage, which adds up to a 140½ DPR. Running the numbers through the CR Calculator the firelord...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

Yes. The adventure's text describing the Dark Dweller encounter was rather long and wordy so I didn't include it in the Homebrew version I posted. Might email or PM you a transcription of it later.

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Okay, so I need to check the CR Calculator to see what its Challenge Rating is. Should the DPR be too high it might bump the firelord up to a +7 Proficiency Bonus. If that happens, I'd rather bump the skills, saves, attacks, DCs et cetera up by 1 than bump the damage figures down to match a...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Fine, while update the Efreeti Firelord Working Draft. …while doing so, I noticed a copy-and-replace typo in Combustion Gaze: Also decided the wording was a little clumsy, so have rephrased it to: Combustion Gaze (Costs 2 Actions). The efreeti firelord glares at a single creature or object...

5E: Completed Fifth Edition Creatures Index

Okay, using the same text formatting as the "Variant" entry made the most sense to me so I've temporarily inserted the Giant Amblypygid into the Completed Fifth Edition Creatures Index as follows: Index of 5th Edition Monsters NAME CR D&D Beyond [CC] Enworld Amblypygid, Giantᴬ 1/2 Completed...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Okay, let's rough it out: Legendary Actions The efreeti firelord can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The firelord regains spent legendary actions at the start of...

Special Conversion Thread: Lycanthropes and their ilk

How's this: Special Attacks: A weredragon retains the special attacks of the base creature or base dragon, depending on which form it is using, and also gains the special attacks described below. In hybrid form a weredragon retains the special attacks of the base creature and gains the special...

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

Also, if we're giving it standard giant Rock Throwing it'd have a +1 racial bonus to attack rolls so we'd need to make its poor depth perception penalty –3 if we want it to have a –2 total penalty like the original. It'd be simpler to just not give it the racial bonus to attack when chucking...

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

A quick check of official sources isn't having much luck. There's a Special Quality called Poor Depth Perception but can't find an official creature with it. The CC version of the Cyclopskin was a pertinent ability: Want to use that if we can't find anything better?

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

Works for me. Agreed. Will include that in the next update. There are one-eyed creatures in official sources such as Cyclopes. Do they have a SQ we can "borrow"? Nope. An AD&D Hill Giant can hurl a rock up to 200 yards, which is considerably further than the 60 yards of a Fachan. A 3E...

    Converting Planescape monsters

Come to think of it, I haven't added either of these Modronoids, or the Bielgorad for that matter, to the conversions Index thread. Updating Completed Creatures Index & Current Conversions.

    Converting Planescape monsters

The modronoid version of Valran has an identical statblock to a regular Decaton apart from lacking the clerical spellcasting, so if we follow that example the template should retain the modron's SAs and SQs apart from spells, such as All-Around Vision, Damage Reduction, Resistances, Telepathy et...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Okay, for the Legendaries we can start by picking out what Standard/Bonus/Reaction Actions to include and then think about whether to add any more. So I was thinking Purifying Pyre from Actions plus both Fiery Eyes and Flash Step from Bonus Actions. As for Reactions, we could give it a...

Converting original D&D and Mystara monsters

The statblock has "2 fists or 1 weapon" as its Attacks, and the weapon does 1d10+5 (+3 from its Strength, +2 from magic). Bielgorad "wield +2 magical weapons" and "these oversized weapons include a crook" so I'm presuming that it's a polearm with some kind of hooked mancatcher attached to it...
