Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

We've still got the Dark Dweller and Taker of Life to convert.

Special Conversion Thread: Lycanthropes and their ilk

Updating the Weredragon (True Drakanthrope) Working Draft. I'd just go through it in order, so Special Attacks next.

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

By the way, what are we calling these things? The Creature Catalog has Fachan for the weird Forgotten Realms version and Lesser Fachan for the Celtic version. Which seems off to me, wouldn't they be better as a Faerûn Fachan and just Fachan? Never mind, it's too late to change it. So if the...

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

Will note that in the Working Draft. Hmm… A 3E standard issue Ogre is Str 21, Dex 8, Con 15, Int 6, Wis 10, Cha 7. The Fachan has a +4 damage bonus while a 2E Common Ogre has "weapon +6" damage and a +2 to hit, which suggests it might have a slightly lower Strength. However, the MC Fachan...

I'm happy to keep going with the conversions.

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Updating the Efreeti Firelord Working Draft. Okay, next is Reactions. Do you fancy anything here or shall we leave it empty and move on to the Legendaries?

    Converting Planescape monsters

Yeah although it would seem prudent to call the latter the "host modron" to avoid confusion with standard base modrons (e.g. monodrones to pentadrones), especially if the sample creature has its brain implanted in a hierarch modron!

Converting original D&D and Mystara monsters

Updating Bielgorad Working Draft. The full immobilization involves the crook-grappled target being dropped into an enchanted net held by another bielgorad, so we're going to need to add that as a Special Attack too. The fact that a creature trapped in the crook "cannot cast magic or fight"...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Updating the Efreeti Firelord Working Draft. Okay, I'm thinking 80 feet for the Flash Step movement, same as the Firelord's flight speed. All the monsters with true seeing in the Monster Manual have truesight 120 ft. and that's also the range the true seeing spell provides, so I think it makes...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Will green the remaining purple Actions and remove the question mark in the next update. Works for me. We'll need a distance for the stepping and a couple of ranges and a damage for the eyes. Leaving it out is simpler! :p

    Converting Oriental Adventures creatures

Hmm, if we were following the precedent of the Maelost worm smarms, then the weak one would be a "Beetle Swarm, Carnivorous" while the strong one would be "Beetle Swarm, Deadly" instead of an ordinary carnivorous beetle swarm. What thinks thee?

Works for me. Will post a couple of blank Working Drafts and then we can start arguing debating the details.

    Kraken Variants

As written that'd allow the Krakentua to wield seven Colossal two-handed weapons in its tentacles with only a –8 attack penalty. Considering its BAB and Strength bonus give it plenty of attack modifier that doesn't seem wise. How about this: Weapon Wielding Tentacles (Ex): A krakentua can...

    Converting True Dragons

Yup. Well there's four dragons with Blink, so if the SAs stacked it'd be 24/day! Well, if forced to hazard a guess, I'd suggest "so it stands out more and the GM is less likely to forget the blinking ability."

Special Conversion Thread: Lycanthropes and their ilk

So that's what the issue is. That "base dragon" was intended to refer to the dragon type of the base dragon. How about changing it to "if the dragon type of the base dragon has those attacks at any age category."

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

They're a fairly well known folklore monster. We've also converted a similar "half a man" monster from Arabian Myth, the Nasnas. Yeah, I agree on both. This version is some sort of weird mutant ogre and is considered giant-kin. The original entries say their anatomy is bizarre enough it...
