Excellent! Many thanks. That's my weekend sorted :)

Pathfinder 1E Is PAIZO becoming the next Wizards?

Apologies. You realize the last paragraph was (meant to be) a joke right?

XCrawl! - Played Our First Ever Session Tonight

This is weirdness. I've got the x-crawl pdf and looked at it once, quickly. I just today thought I might give it a go as a one-shot game and then I saw this thread. Spooky. So tell me: Do I really need to read all that history/fluff/what-have-you at the beginning if I just want to run a beer...

Pathfinder 1E Is PAIZO becoming the next Wizards?

Fair enough. Perhaps I overstated. All I mean is that migration to any PFRPG2 will not be a formality for their core customers. They have demonstrated that when faced with an edition change that they do not (for whatever reason) approve of, they are prepared to either not switch at all or do...

Pathfinder 1E Is PAIZO becoming the next Wizards?

I think this is spot-on. Their new core customer is, since PFRPG, a D&Der who didn't like 4E. In fact, my guess is that the reason they hit a home run (in their terms) with PFRPG is they offered a conservative edition change to a bunch of people who had been eagerly awaiting the 'real' edition...

Dear 4e, Please Stop with the Horrible Portmanteaus!

Hey, if anyone's got a horrible compound name around here, it's yours truly :). Maybe I shall become immortalized in MM5. Though on current form they are more likely to use 'Springskull'. Right. Off to play Path-Finder...

What Do You Carry to a Game?

When playing online I pretty much run everything on the PC - Herolab for PCs, SRD open in multiple tabs for reference. If GMing then I'll also probably have a pdf open and perhaps some notes. At the table I'll still take my PC if I'm GMing (hyperlinked SRD is a must-have in 3.X for me) but if...

    Where Do You Game?

How about adding in 'online' as a distinct option?

    Where Do You Game?

It varies an awful lot. We have just started an online game (using d20pro and skype). Until recently we had a sporadic Monday night pub game. We don't play anywhere near as much as we would like, so twice a year we all rent a place in the country and play for three days solid to get it out of...

Your FLGS and You - What's your take?

Orc's Nest for me too. What's up with those guys? They seriously need to lighten up. Used to go to Leisure Games in Finchley and still order off their website - prefer them to get my gaming gold. I've never really plugged into my local FLGS 'community' though. In the UK, half the time the...

Why 4e is a good thing (even if you hate it)

Our group has had a slightly different experience: We're pretty much lazy, beer and crisps, old skool d&ders and have rarely strayed outside 'core' for 30 years (except maybe a dash of Arduin back in the day). For us, the release of 4E has left us with a slightly giddy sense of freedom. The...

    Pathfinder 1E Opinions on Pathfinder

I get the same questions during encounters. Most of the time the answer is "I just added it." I'm playing and enjoying PF, just as I played and enjoyed previous editions, but one thing that bothers me about the 3.x approach is this sense that everything deserves an explanation in terms of the...

    Invisibility...when does it end?

Hmmmm. This is classic gamism/simulation. (well, simulation of a totally fantastical, unsimulatable type thing). The dispel on attack clause will never make any empirical sense. It's purely to stop invisibility becoming an uber-spell. Not sure I can remember this coming up that much in my...

The Bane of the 3ed DM: Monster Advancement, Class Levels, and Prep Time

This. My in extremis method is just to pick a number and use it for everything, e.g. Central Casting Henchman - 7. That is, AC17, Hit +7 Damage d8+7 Fort/Ref/Wil +7, 70 hit points... you get the idea. Works surprisingly well. If I really had to stat out a complex bad guy - say a 12th Level...

    Merry Christmas!

In Salamandys we try play cricket, but cricket and bat keep trying to escape. Frankly, we stumped.

Pah! In Salamandys, gridiron played on real gridiron!

    Merry Christmas!

The cynic in me fears they are still arguing over which is the 'real' football - soccer or gridiron.

    Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you all! 4E and 3E fanboys have left their trenches and are playing football out in no-man's-land!

    The Sweet Spot

We've switched our various old 3.5 stuff to PF - Rappan Athuk, playing at about 6th, Rise of the Runelords (started with Beta) (5th), an adaptation of Slavelords (8th) and my homebrew (15th). As has been observed before, the class buffs and the channelling makes 1st and 2nd much more fun. We had...
