I still say that throwing a melee weapon would NOT change the weapon into a ranged weapon, althought it would be a ranged attack. So therefore, the Assassin's Death Attack would work if you threw a Dagger (a melee weapon used as a ranged attack).

What about the amount of time it takes to perform each? Is a Spell-like ability a Standard Action? What about Supernatural abilities? Are they free actions or standard?

I thought the monster in the MM was called a Shade, not a Shadow? If this is the case, you can just say that a Shadow is like the Shade in the MM but w/o the ability to create spawns.

Maybe he's one of those Red Avengers. Isn't there a PrC or feat that allows you to stun people with a scream?

He would need to make a concentration check. Anytime you try to cast a spell within the same round that you took damage, you need to make a con. check.

I have a slight confusion about how each of these weapon "descriptors" are categorized. For example, the Dagger is located under "Martial Weapons - Melee" in the PHB but it also has a range increment as it can be thrown. So what would this weapon be considered? Melee and a thrown weapon...
