Good Star Trek RPG for the kind of player/GM I am.

My recommendation would be to adapt True20 or Mutants & Masterminds. The games are similar enough that sci-fi expansions can be used in either game. True20 Level-based. 3 Main archetypes/class (Warrior, Expert, Adept) but you can effectively build custom classes by mixing the 3. The Revised...

    B2: Keep on the Borderlands

KotB was the first module I ever ran. I ran it faithfully as a campaign starter for at least 4 different groups over the years. While it certainly had its share of rough spots (at least by today's standards), it also did a fantastic job of showcasing the site-based sandbox concept -- in many...

Do you think WoTC should be sued?

Wow, barely out of January and we've already got a "most idiotic idea of 2011" contender for the title. That's saying something. I mean, this is a post on the Internet we're talking about! That's some heavy competition.

The Purchase DC of the National Debt

The way China manipulates it's currency? Sure.

    What's the problem with railroading?

I think you are misinterpreting the terms, or at least taking the counterpoint (i.e. sandbox) to the extreme where there is no direction. Sandbox can be "Here are 6 plot seeds. Introduce them to the characters and see which ones they are interested in/pursue." At the extreme end of the...

Did WotC underestimate the Paizo effect on 4E?

The OP may have pre-dated the Industry forum, but the original topic and original pages sure fit this forum. A battle for the hearts-and-minds of Save-or-Die game mechanic fence-sitters doesn't. At least I'm not seeing it.

Did WotC underestimate the Paizo effect on 4E?

Serious question. How did we get this many pages deep into SoD mechanics discussion in the RPG Industry Forum? "A forum for communicating with publishers and for posting press releases and announcements. Now includes the old e-Publishing and RPG Legalities forums. If you want to discuss the...

Ultimate Combat Playtest: Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai

Fair enough, but earlier in this thread, as well as in others on Paizo's boards, replace is the term being used. Thanks for the clarification.

Ultimate Combat Playtest: Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai

May I direct you to Ed Greenwood's Golarion web fiction on Paizo's webpage: http://paizo.com/store/byCompany/p/paizoPublishingLLC/pathfinder/tales/serial Unfortunately, Alkenstar is in Golarion. Fortunately, to date at least, per the Campaign Setting, the influence of firearms has been...

Ultimate Combat Playtest: Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai

This I had seen. However, this is addressing class features & multi-classing. It is not saying that ninja replaces rogue or gunslinger replaces the fighter class in the campaign. Thanks for finding that quote, though.

Ultimate Combat Playtest: Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai

I've seen this distinction thrown around the Paizo boards as well but haven't seen it confirmed by an official source. The fact that the Antipaladin doesn't replace the Paladin kind of flies in the face of this assessment, however.

Ultimate Combat Playtest: Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai

Agreed and I share the concern. While the PFRPG books are not Golarion-specific, many players will expect that anything contianed in a RPG book with PATHFINDER on the cover will be fair game in a Golarion campaign. I have zero interest in seeing revolvers and gunslingers showing up in APs and...

Ultimate Combat Playtest: Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai

I agree with Pawsplay's initial assessment 100%. While I think the Gunslinger is cool mechanically, it doesn't mix well with standard frpg play. How'd we jump to a Wild West gunslinger from swords-n-sorcery? No musketeer's? In emulating the pulp genre on another planet in Golarion's solar...

Scott Thorne, a retailer, comments on recent events

DEFCON 1, chill out. I was responding to a ridiculous assertion that the only way Paizo could do as well as 4e was for WotC to surrender the print format to Paizo. Companies look to add revenue streams. They don't replace existing ones lightly. And despite the current predictions of doom...

No, what I'm saying is that DDI is an additive D&D revenue stream, not the primary D&D revenue stream. The assertion that Pathfinder was only making inroads on 4e was due to WotC abandoning print has little evidence to support it. It's equally possible that Pathfinder is catching/outperforming...

Anne Hathaway cast as Selina "Catwoman" Kyle in upcoming Batman 3

Interesting. Not sure what I think about it yet, though. As much as I like Hathaway and find her very appealing in a girl-next-door sort of way, I'm not sure I see her (yet) as the sultry, uber-sexy Selina Kyle. Nolan hasn't disappointed yet, though, so I'm eagerly looking forward to it.

Gotcha. Within that context, I'd agree.

    My love letter to WotC

Personally, I'd prefer: 1. For Pathfinder to become the dominant RPG in the market. 2. That Pathfinder become the new "gateway RPG" for players new to the hobby. 3. That Pathfinder & Golarion become viable intellectual properties that extend beyond RPGs (books, video games, comics, movies)...

    My love letter to WotC

I don't get it, either. Pathfinder is a game that I love and Paizo is a company that I admire and willingly support with my gaming dollars. For me and my game groups, it's about having fun and enjoying the game. It doesn't matter a bit whether or not the game says "Dungeons & Dragons" on it...

Assuming this post wasn't meant as sarcasm... This is like global warming "science": If it's hot, it's global warming. If it's cold, it's global warming. If it's dry... If it's wet... (And, no, I'm not saying global warming isn't happening, I'm saying the "science" being used to prove it...
