4e/WotC: Pro- or Anti- why do you care?

Well, my assessment is that while the D&D customer base fractured to some degree, everybody won. 4e fans are still WotC/4e fans. Those that aren't have multiple alternatives receiving active support, which is a far cry of "stick with what you have or move on to 4e". For me, PFRPG & Golarion...

4e/WotC: Pro- or Anti- why do you care?

Uh, ok. :-S I care about Pathfinder, Fantasycraft, & Trailblazer. Don't care about 4e. If someone's happy with 4e it doesn't really impact me. I'm not suggesting people abandon their passion for their hobby, I just don't know why people are trying to "convince" the "other side" in 2010.

4e/WotC: Pro- or Anti- why do you care?

'Cause I was genuinely curious? How about because the wife was watching a TV show that didn't hold my interest and I was bored and posted a thread on the basis of "I wonder why..."? And if "Thread Effectuality" is a new benchmark for starting new threads I guess I missed the memo. :hmm...

4e/WotC: Pro- or Anti- why do you care?

I'm a bit perplexed. With the announcement of 4e, launch of 4e, & long-delayed GSL the Edition Wars were in full swing. Fast forward to Q3 2010 and it's tough to say both camps can't be satisfied. WotC/4e fans have 4e. Those who don't like 4e have PF (& other RPGs like FantasyCraft)...

    APG Class Opinions?

I'm really liking the cavalier, oracle, & witch. The cavalier is one of the best of it's kind. It hits all the right themes, the use of Orders to emulate different types of cavaliers eliminates the need for the prestige class-tweak approach that was often taken during the 3.x/d20 days. And...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo = Play WoTC = Pay?

My bad & apolgies to Nifft, then. Apparently, I can't detect sarcasm before the morning coffee.

Pathfinder 1E Paizo = Play WoTC = Pay?

Except you're not correct. The APs aren't a railroad unless you're the type of GM that believes all of the story must exist within the pages of the book. The APs are the main story, not a straight-jacket. You could run them that way if you chose, but I'd say that's either to cater to the...

Did WotC underestimate the Paizo effect on 4E?

I saw the "when WotC was WotC and not Hasbro" as a continuation of the "Hasbro corporate speak" thread immediately preceding, rather than a pre-Hasbro buyout statement. My mistake.

Did WotC underestimate the Paizo effect on 4E?

WotC is a division of Hasbro. It's got it's own execs, staff, budgets, etc. Hasbro provides sales & business targets, I'm sure, but this recurring theme of Shadowrun-fueled nonsense that WotC is gamers-like-us and Hasbro is the evil-megacorp is tired and wholly unrealistic. Is it possible...

Did WotC underestimate the Paizo effect on 4E?

I don't think WotC underestimated Paizo, I think they didn't even factor them into their decisions. As Umbran stated, WotC was hoping to have 4e compete with other entertainment. Given their market share & the D&D brand, they felt few would really leave for good. That said, I think WotC, in...

    non-4e D&D Players . . .

No. That ship sailed. Truthfully, I haven't missed it and I've made peace with not being WotC's target demographic. Pathfinder all the way, baby! I've also gleeful that I DO apparently, fall within Paizo's target demographic.

Do people like Story Hours with lots of dialogue?

I'll put it to you this way: Story Hours with dialogue allow me to invest in the story in the way I would a novel or short story. I've read good story hours that are comprised solely of summaries, but all of the GREAT story hours I've read had dialogue.

[Trailer] Last Airbender: what's the appeal?

    1. If you seek a job as a movie reviewer, seeing a lot of movies is A) something you presumably enjoy, and B) your job. I don't care how many movies they have to watch. It's their job. 2. To single out Ebert, specifically, his "critical analysis" is often a whim. It's like watching...

[Trailer] Last Airbender: what's the appeal?

Taking the kids to see it tomorrow. As I stated earlier, I don't have high expectations for the movie but I'll be much more interested to see it for myself or hear from gamers that have actually seen the movie. I find movie reviewers in general, and Ebert as a prime example, as a collective...

[Trailer] Last Airbender: what's the appeal?

After The Happening, I have no idea if the live-action movie will suck. Sadly, smart money is probably safer on betting that it will - but that's b/c of M. Night, not because of the source material. A 30-second preview spot can't convey the setting or story in a truly meaningful way. That's...

    Pathfinder 1E PaizoCon 2010 News

Any of the following: 1. That either the book isn't being used in your campaign or you need to review it further to evaluate what parts, if any, you'll consider. 2. Tell him you want to understand the impact the additions would have on the game. Suggest either a couple of sample encounters...

You have a lizarfolk and a half-dragon/half-ogre. Perhaps I don't see it since I don't play 4e, but how is it "4e heavy"? Just curious as Rich indicated he wasn't having the story "change editions" again. Ah, guess I didn't read far enough into the thread. Never mind.
