    PC actions vs. DM expectations

I've got about a 70% success ratio of waiving my hands and yelling "Over here!" to get my PC's into the adventure. After that though, they're just a bomb. The situation will get blown into dust. Mostly I just try to figure out the major NPC's enough to be able to roll with it.

    Am I a Mean DM?

The games I've seen, participated in, and run locally typically feature 2-4 fights during a single 5 hour session.

    Am I a Mean DM?

Don't even worry about it. Dieing happens. I'd offer the player the option of picking up one of the NPC's (two if you're up for a humorus situation) rolling up a new quick character, or sitting the end-game out (which seems painful).

Hospitality in Gaming or Gaming in Hospitality?

My "Gaming Hospitality" isn't really driven as "Hospitality caused by the need to game". It's more of a compromise between my drive to socialize and my drive to create. I could be hanging out, or I could be writing. Instead I'm trying to blend the impulses to gain a different expierence...

    M&M stacking powers

I've got a question for you AC. If you get rid of PL = Max Power Ranks, what does PL mean? With what it means now, PL controls both maximum strength (depth in a single power), and flexibility (total points available to spend). By cutting out the first portion, I think an important section of...

    M&M stacking powers

The nice thing about having some overlap is when you fight enemies who can drain or weaken your character. With a super str of 5 and a weapon of 5, you can take three points of drain before it starts to show. A little overlap is good for safety.

    Do I want to die?

My biggest concern would be that you'd fall behind pretty badly with stats like that. Forget dieing for a moment. We're talking levels of unprecidented "I'm so f*ing innefective" that death will seem a sweet sweet alternative. ;) If comperative effectiveness isn't an issue, then great, by all...

    Recommended MnM house rules/errata?

Not really a house rule, just more of an idea that I've been tossing around is grouping sets of skills into groups and setting them as super powers. Thus, you might get "Super sneaking", or "Atheticism" as a power. Not really super useful in itself, but it's an easy fit within the powers mechanism.

Bad Paladin... or My First Paladin thread...

Yo, I'm back! Anyway, to answer the question of "Would I bend the RAW to let you play this character?" I can have to ask "Do I trust you as a player? Would it hurt the group?" I wouldn't mind you playing this concept. However, as a player, you'd have to make sure to listen when I told you I...

    Where do you shine?

My strongest area is in imagination. I can make a campaign out of anything. Gimme a consistant rules set, half an hour, and a cup of coffee and I can get almost anything going into a campaign. I'm also pretty good at winging it, which falls into the above. I'm decent at making NPC's, throwing a...

DMs: how do your parties move up in the world?

Well, it's not Eberron specific, but in my case, it comes from rescuing things for a minor noble. Then, when some other (more important) noble is all "Yo yo, I got this problem. I need me some stuff taken care of all circumspectlike." Then the minor noble hands him the party's card and says...

    2004 in-game regret

Good stuff here. Let's see.... As a DM, my biggest regret (Aside from having almost no sessions the last 3 months) is that last spycraft game we played. So, I suck at having guys be tortured for information, and they suck at torturing. What resulted was 40 minutes of out of game time spanning 4...

Bad Paladin... or My First Paladin thread...

Excellent. Now that I get a little more of the baseline it's less worrysome. Maybe the kids you babysit are different from the ones I do then. :) There tends to be a lot of "Don't climb on that, it'll break. Here, play with this. Don't touch that, it's hot." And, of course, the ever fun...

Bad Paladin... or My First Paladin thread...

He sounds like a challenge in more ways than one. Which to me is part of the problem. In a heavy RP game, he could be pretty interesting and it would be fun to explore that guy's mind. In a light RP game it's really just window dressing anyway and then it's just kind of fun. As a DM anywhere...

*Sigh* I was hoping for something more...

Not quite the same, but... In my last D&D campaign, the players finally managed to escape from an a trap ridden, undead-filled, wizard made dungeon. Part of this involved the capturing, and occasional near-death of a somewhat shy and bumbling npc captive named Thompson. Well, they make it out...

    The nature of story

I'm actually expirementing with this in the game I'm going to be starting up in january (probablly just a 3-5 session spin). In my last campaign survey, The omst overwhelmingn response for what was wanted was 'chances to RP' and 'story'. Actually, not just story, but an overarching story. Well...

The Liberation of Tenh (updated April 24)

Great. Now I'm going to be checking here every day for the next month looking for more information. String me out why don't you? ;)

What would you like to see in a new game store?

I really like the ability to order stuff through the store, and people who are willing to help me out in making a selection. I stopped going to one store after going in several times to check on an order and getting no response from the people (who weren't) manning the desk. Wasn't worth the...

Help! My GM's trying to get me pregnant!

Alright, so.... You're still adventuring, right? So, after coming back from an adventure, start asking for information. Act all obsessed. What was he doing, where did he go, did anyone head over? Then, accuse him of cheating on you. If he defends himself he's a liar, so kill him. If he admits...

    DM Forcing Characters on Players

I'm going to be doing something similar for my next few games. They're not campaigns, but will be a bit longer than one game (one looking at 3-5 sessions, one looking at 4-10, another at 3-6). I'd just like to say that I'm not forcing a character on anyone though. There's a big group of people I...
