    D&D 5E (2014) The classes of 5e (now with 90% less speculation)

Now there is something I hope gets a real overview, I've never really been happy with it in D&D. On one hand it would make a certain amount of sense to give it to the warlock, on the other hand I don't think that's something the warlock has really touched much on in either of its incarnations.

    D&D 5E (2014) The classes of 5e (now with 90% less speculation)

So right now I think the class I'm most curious about is the Warlock. I was kind of intrigued by the all day caster design from 3.5 and I loved the flavor from 4e (I wish they had done more with the curse though). Anyway, though I'd dearly love to see the new take on Vancian casting for the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Three Wishes for 5E

I think you'll get your wish. Barbarian, Fighter, Thief/Rogue, plus the Warlord. Yes, magic that's full of flavor and isn't just a variant of X number of guys for X number of damage, lot's of out of combat weirdness. I hope you get your wish, 4e taught me that unique classes are much more...

    D&D 5E (2014) The classes of 5e (now with 90% less speculation)

Seems a hasty decision to me without having seen the rules and all, especially when there's going to be an open beta test. Really though this is derailing an interesting thread, I don't see any reason to to keep dragging someone back in who isn't interested in the new edition anyway. If he...

    D&D 5E (2014) The classes of 5e (now with 90% less speculation)

Kind of have to add something new every new edition right? I'm thinking psion is finally going to get the nod and be bumped up to the first players handbook. Though it's never been a PHB class, so to speak, psionics has a long history with the game, and in an edition that's all about the...

    Powers dropping out...

I quite disliked 4E's way of having to drop out previously known powers if you wanted to take level appropriate ones, especially when there was nothing with a similar flavor available, since you basically ended up altering your character in a very fundamental way if you wanted to stay...

    Relevant Orcs

I am incredibly happy to hear that bigger numbers for the sake of bigger numbers looks like it will be going to the wayside. I think it will definitely benefit the game to have the power curve flattened. That whole add half your level thing from 4e used to drive me nuts because it was just...

What doesn't belong in the "core"

I hadn't really thought about it before now, but I'd be happy to see the psion in the core just to expand people's minds a little bit about the kinds of weird pulpy worlds D&D can represent.

    Ability Scores

Ew, I really don't like that. I would very much like to get away from the 'everyone has a stat of X in their primary attribute, because they need it to function' thing. It's so boring.

What doesn't belong in the "core"

I have no problem with them being inclusive as long as it doesn't come at the cost of something classic being left out. I.E. I have no problem with there being Dragonborn if it's not at the cost of say the Gnome, or Warlords if it's not at the cost of the Druid. In fact I think a certain...

    Ability Scores

Though going straight to modifiers like M&M 3e did makes a great deal of sense from a practical standpoint, I fear that such a change would not be well received at the cost of the traditional 3-18 ability range, if for no other reason that it precludes rolling characters with a handful of d6's...

What kind of New Setting for Fifth Edition? (Other than old settings)

I could see this, a PHB that supports multiple primes, using examples from Greyhawk/Forgotten Realms/Dragonlance/Darksun/Eberron/et c. clearly showing that D&D can come in many flavors, supporting a larger overall meta setting in which all of the setting exist. I'm not sure what kind of...

    Ability Scores

Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. Ability scores, every edition of D&D has them, and it's highly unlikely they're going anywhere. So what should we do with them? Should we roll them, point buy them, or just have everyone start with the same array...

What kind of New Setting for Fifth Edition? (Other than old settings)

I've been saying for a long time that D&D needs a good anime/manga/jrpg style setting, it would tap into a new market and draw new players to the game if it was done right. Something very much in the aesthetic vein of FFTA/Dragonquest/Chrono Trigger/Uresia, with very authentic art and writing...

    Let's Forget the Forgotten Realms

Morrus, if you know so little about it as you say you do I'm not certain how you can render your verdict of it being a boring setting such as you have done. Rather than form an opinion from second hand talk and a couple crummy novels, why not actually sit down with a setting book and inform...

As a player, I like a campaign that...

3 & 4, for exactly the reasons Derren stated above. I'm all for events in the game world as long as they're there for the players to latch on to, ignore, bend, spindle, mutilate, and/or manipulate their hearts content. But if the choice is freedom within the confines of a specific storyline...

Simple Systems for a Starter Storyteller?

Take a look at Risus, PDQ, or PDQ#. These are light games with player defined traits and are available for free online (the various PDQs have several published versions with different tweaks for different genres if you find you like the base system). The openness of these games works really...

    247 sessions, 15 years!

Being part of this kind of long running campaign has always been sort of dream of mine. But I've never even lived in the same place for 15 years. Congrats you lucky people. :)

Preview of "Dungeons & Dragons" #1, on sale today!

I love comics, but I wouldn't buy this based on the strength of the preview. I really disliked the dialogue, it was painful to me. The art isn't terrible (not great either though) and certainly wouldn't put me off if I liked the writing. Some things like the flippy elf panel really aren't...

Until First Light (DM: TwoHeadsBarking. Judge: renau1g)

Lily squeaked in pain as her shadow vanished under the dragons claws once more, but did not stumble. Taking a deep breath she began to whisper under her breath again. Shadow began to coalesce next to the decaying bulk of the dragon, at the same time a shining, silvery mist formed around Lily...
