    AoO and "circling"

I sort of feel like, in a TotM situation, circling for position should be some sort of maneuver for an advantage of some kind. To me that would make a lot more sense in that context than trying to adjudicate it via AoO.

    AD&D 2E As a strategy 4e or 2e on classes

Where is the option for a lot of both? If a background or theme is all that's needed then a new class probably isn't necessary, but on the other hand, I really hate when designers start making compromises to try to squeeze everything into one mechanic.

    Best Initiative System?

Perhaps, but I'm not really concerned with concentrating on a particular execution so much as the general idea of Declarative versus Cyclical initiative versus whatever.

The Illusionist: Class, Background or Theme?

Really, why not? Couldn't someone have been a commoner before becoming an illusionist, or a a runaway apprentice who took up soldiering? I mean isn't that what a background is, what you were before?

    Best Initiative System?

What do you think is the best initiative system for Dungeons & Dragons? The classic AD&D and older style where everyone declares and then you figure out how it all shakes out, or the cyclical initiative that's was used in 3e, 4e, and now in the 5e playtest material? Or perhaps something else...

D&D 5E (2014) Are you happy with D&D Next so far?

So far? Yeah, I'm quite happy with the direction things are going. Are there things I would change? Sure, and it's obviously not finished, but in general I feel very positive about it so far. My initial inclination is that has the potential to be an improvement over the last couple of editions.

The Illusionist: Class, Background or Theme?

There isn't really any reason that you couldn't have specialization, or a class, and a theme in addition to that, then through the right choice of themes and class you could have an illusionist that's all in, one that's deversified a bit, or another spellcaster like a cleric or warlovk that has...

The Illusionist: Class, Background or Theme?

Honestly, I'm really hoping class. I really don't feel like we need specialist for every school of magic, and but some types of magic are special enough to warrant making them their own classes so they have license to make them actually unique. I really could see Illusionist, Necromancer...

How do you like your martial characters?

This, also give me broad mechanics that can be applied to a wide variety of situations, not a bunch of narrow, complicated subsystems. I want fighters that can throw sand in peoples' eyes, rip rugs out from under people, and kick people in the junk without having to look up the throwing sand...

    Wizards and Armor

Traditionally giving up even a tiny portion of your spellcastimg has been a huge opportunity class.

    Wizards and Armor

I kind of feel like that you should be able to cast in armor if you're proficient in it, ie if you invested some resource in something you should be able to do it. Mostly I`m thinking multiclass characters should be able to use their class features, for instance a fighter/mage ought be able to...

    Goblins! A Playtest Report.

Sorry, I mentioned up in the body, but not at the end. I didn't like it because it felt ackward and clunky and it felt like it slowed things down a little figuring it out. I would almost rather they just treat the surprised party's roll as a 0 and leave it at that (i.e. if you have a Init. mod...

    Goblins! A Playtest Report.

It's possible, I may be been overly generous with lighting at points especially around the cave mouth, the area was noted as dim and I went with that. I never bothered to count squares when it came to that or the light spell in the interest of keeping things moving. However they only managed...

    Contests - I don't like

Having them all roll seems silly to me. If they are on guard together I would treat them as assisting each other if they're actually doing what they're supposed to do. One check with advantage, since advantage can't stack they essentially get two checks and done. However if all the guards are...

    Thread Rating System

LoL, i can honestly say I've never noticed it before. Let me rephrase, now that I've noticed it, I don't care for it.

    Goblins! A Playtest Report.

Fair warning, this is going to be long and rambling, if you want to just see my overall impressions, skip to the end. I got a few of my players together yesterday and we finally got to try out the playtest rules. I ran the game and I had three players that ran the five pre-gens between them...

    Thread Rating System

I really dislike the new thread rating system. I feel like it's just a tool for micro-aggression in the Edition War, that has the potential to dampen conversation.

    Design The Core For Drunks!

Though I usually keep my drinking and my D&D separate I agree about the level of complexity the core rules should strive for.

Should mods to hit be dropped from ability scores?

It would be better than the current tack IMHO, I could see a return to the ability modifier chart from the the Rules Cyclopedia. I still think having damage and hit mod off the same stat is just too tempting a target to pile all in, especially with the flatter math though. Those pluses are...
