    Rebellion Acquires Tunnels & Trolls

I am curious to see if Lost Worlds also got picked up.

    RPG Evolution: Are RPGs Art?

If the notion of art is "an act of human expression" then of course they are. If the notion of art is of it as a artifice of social judgement, then ultimately, your mileage will vary. I find such judgements are so intrinsically personal that while they can be fodder for sincere discussion, they...

D&D 5E (2024) How quickly should WOTC add new classes?

For me, the "danger" of class bloat is not so much adding a new class, as it opens the door for needed subclasses for said class. While I like the artificer and feel it is doing things that a wizard subclass would struggle reproducing, thus far, they have added all of one new subclass since the...

D&D General Fighting Law and Order

If the stated goal is simulation, then can you actually object to any choices the players make?

D&D General Fighting Law and Order

So joining late and only responding to the OP. From a narrative standpoint, why have guards show up? Why not have them describe how they escape and move onto the actual events of consequence?

Effects of writers strike on Sci Fi & Fantasy genre

I think we are speaking past each other here. I am not speaking to the challenges this strike brings to productions. I am speaking to how, with the previous strike, there was a near immediate effect that led to very vocal audience discontent. That discontent is what puts pressure on the studios...

Effects of writers strike on Sci Fi & Fantasy genre

Definitely would be the focal point for a game. My rough plan would be setting it about 30 years prior to the series, mainly so most of the existing characters aren't around.

Effects of writers strike on Sci Fi & Fantasy genre

I don't claim to know much on modern show production. But I do know that audiences are conditioned right now to accept 2-3 year gaps between seasons can happen.

Effects of writers strike on Sci Fi & Fantasy genre

Not to derail, but multiple members of my gaming table are demanding a Shadow and Bone rpg. Gonna give it a try using Blades in the Dark.

Effects of writers strike on Sci Fi & Fantasy genre

So what has me concerned is that the last strike happened with us still working primarily under the network television model being the most important. What that meant was that shows hat were actively on were going to be immediately affected. With streaming now being more common, and post covid...

RPG Evolution: Multiverses All the Way Down

It's funny. One of my early characters as a kid used the whole "I'm from Earth, thrust into a fantasy world" trope, but as time has gone on, apart from Ravenloft, I really rarely use a Multiverse in a given campaign. I think when most people use Multiverse as a storytelling trope now, it's...

    Collectivism in Gaming

Some great insight here. Thanks to everyone so far. Like a few people who have commented, TTRPG makes up the lionshare of my hobby spending, so I am able to buy things every few months or so without much pain to my budget. I have another member of my table who has collected a good number of...

D&D General If A Noble holds 1 title per country in 2 neighbouring countries what can he do if those countries go to war?, after all no matter what he lose's

I'm seeing a lot of people fire back at the OP to "study history" which is fine and all, but this isn't actually a history question. It is a gaming narrative question. The answer is: What are your narrative goals? Follow those. Is the noble one of honor? Play up their internal conflict. Are...

D&D General What is the worst piece of DM advice people give that you see commonly spread?

Anything that reinforces a belief that it is hard and discourages people from trying.

D&D 5E (2024) Is the 2024 rules update a new edition? Argue about it here (not everywhere else)!

Honestly we won't know until it's out and we see just how "backwards compatible" the old material is. Every edition since 2nd has had a revised edition of some sort put out. The edition gap really comes down to how much work the table has to put in to use older materials.

Unique British aspects of D&D in the UK?

This. One of the things that will stick out when leaving the United States is how much older things are, many of which are still in use.

    D&D 5E (2014) Next years 50th Anniversary Adventure Speculation

My Guess: Reincarnation of some classic Dungeon Crawl. Marry the old with the new. Temple of Elemental Evil a good choice.

    Collectivism in Gaming

I admit that the title is likely more provocative than I intend, but then again, perhaps not. Does your table share the financial burdens of running a TTRPG? These may include but are not limited to: Books, Minis, Printing costs, Dice, Tokens, Cards, Stationary, VTT fees, food/snacks

    GM: Table Leader

I've taken to giving my players a "menu" of games when a campaign is ending. I rank them from "I've got a bunch to work with here" to "I don't have much but would be willing to run."

    GM: Table Leader

I think these are fine ideas, but these are concepts about how gaming narrative can be constructed, and that's not really what I'm getting at, at least for this discussion. When I say leader, I mean who is making the game happen. If you are a player, what are you doing besides showing up ready...
