Open Letter to WotC from Chris Dias

I believe Lisa Stevens picks the front page products and the terrible puns for the headlines:)

Open Letter to WotC from Chris Dias

Just a quick question - do you folks down south have cost shifting for unsuccessful or frivolous legal actions or do both parties pay their own costs regardless of the merits of a case? My understanding is that the OGL was partially introduced to reduce anxiety around getting SLAPPed with a...

Open Letter to WotC from Chris Dias

I think you and he are really talking at cross purposes. At the risk of putting words in his mouth, I believe he's asking why should WOTC care that 3PPs are chosing Paizo over them. What is the benefit to WOTC's bottom line of having you or anyone else publishing. I guess it comes down to...

    Gamescience dice in Canada?

The dollar being at parity should help with the shipping cost - most canadian retailers are still charging 20-30% more than the us price for books at least.

Scott Thorne, a retailer, comments on recent events

Just a minor quibble - I don't think the groundswell was the driver for the move to pathfinder, rather, I think it was the lack of a license (and all the crossed wires and changed plans at wotc around the licensing paradigm). Paizo did not have the option of going GSL. The company had to keep...

WotC needs to read up on some Techdirt

The 10 dollar pdf core rule book was a big risk that paid off. The compatibility and community licenses and the psrd were also pretty nifty but not as risky.

    RPG legal specialists?

If all you want to do is set up a company, any garden variety small firm or sole practitioner can help you out. Get you incorporated, do all the legwork. Same with helping you understand the OGL license. You could also do it yourself, as long as you aren't selling shares its pretty straight...

D&D 4E Basic Questions about Pathfinder (4e considering a move)

Pathfinder 1E D&D and Pathfinder tied for first place on ICv2 Q3 RPG sales list

Does anyone have a subscription to the magazine that the table in question is from? Presumably they get into the methodology in the actual magazine - we are basically looking at a press release designed to sell / inform people about the content of their latest release, not a full article. IIRC...

Can't argue with you there. It would be awesome.

    More stand alone modules, please.

For example: Take paizo.com - GameMastery Module J1: Entombed with the Pharaohs (OGL) and paizo.com - Pathfinder Module J4: The Pact Stone Pyramid (OGL) Or http://paizo.com/pathfinder/modules/35E/v5748btpy85ef and http://paizo.com/store/downloads/pathfinder/pathfinderModules/35E/v5748btpy83wa

    More stand alone modules, please.

Well they already are sort of doing them - the modules come with a few new monsters and items, and a little background on the area they are set in. They just weigh in at 1/3 the page count.

    More stand alone modules, please.

There are a ton of 32 page paizo modules out there - combine them with one of the region books and you should be set. For example, there is a series of linked Osirion modules and an Osirion region book. Likewise with darkmoon vale. Absolom region book and the hangmans noose and the adventure...

I don't normally buy comic books - anyone know where I can order this online? A quick look at amazon.ca didn't pull anything up. Edit Hey Paizo's got it. Should have looked there first.

Did WotC underestimate the Paizo effect on 4E?

paizo.com - Paizo People: Lisa Stevens :) Given that the founder and CEO was with white wolf for vampire, and with wotc for magic and 3.0 you could almost say that would be nothing new for the company. Just a matter of time eh.

Did WotC underestimate the Paizo effect on 4E?

Well he said that back in 2007 so I'm sure he's not talking current numbers. But given where they all used to work they probably have a good idea of numbers from the 3rd edition and they know the TSR numbers better than anyone. (for ex things like this...
