All monsters equal? Goblin Warrior vs Kobold Skirmisher.

Flawed comparison. Comparing just the useless stats of these two creatures is, well, useless. Garbage in, garbage out. The only thing relevant in those stats is the lower defenses of the Kobold, specifically the 2 less AC. The kobold, when used properly, is just as good as the goblin when it...

The best Power in MP is....Warlord Utility 6 Power.

Your error is that Joe goes again before the dragon, which is not the case. To make things a little more clear, I'm going to call Mike "Fighter" and Joe "Warlord". So the initiative order was: Fighter 20 Warlord 17 Dragon 16 Fighter does his thing. Warlord does his thing, then uses Guileful...

    About them rituals

Yes but... That's correct, but my point was that you don't need to be trained in the key skill, which is what the original poster was inferring by mentioning Religion as it applies to the Raise Dead ritual. (It's Key Skill is Religion). Later, Gruns

    About them rituals

Well... The Fighter doesn't even need to be trained in the the Religion Skill. (I assume you mean trained in Religion, since everyone "has" all skills.) In fact, you technically don't need to be trained in any skills in order to perform rituals, however, the result of some rituals is better...

    Hardest encounters

So far... The Group I DM for just hit level 8, but by far the things that cause the most trouble are Artillery that targets Reflex. The main tank, err umm, defender in the group is a Plate Mail/Heavy Shield paladin, so his AC is above average and he can go toe to toe with any melee types. When...

    Healing Surges

Can't be more poisoned? While I'm on the side of "Nothing hapens when you're out of Healing Surges and are forced to lose one", I don't agree about the poison. If you're taking ongoing posion 5, and get hit with the same attack, you now have 2 instances of ongoing poison 5, both of which must...

    Monsters and Multiple attacks.

Rules As Written, if interpretted that way... Only if you interpret the ambiguous term "attack" to mean "every time you make an attack roll" instead of "when you use an attack power". As for me, I go with the latter. Thus the attack in this case is Hydra's Fury, which, if the fighter is bitten...

    Wand of Accuracy question

Well... Chances are, unless you happen to be targetting more than 10 creatures with the same AoE power, it's only going to turn 1 of the misses into a hit anyway. (Assuming a +2 Dex bonus) Later! Gruns

You didn't read the entire thread. Hydra's Fury is not a burst power. Start at post 1 and go from there. Later! Gruns

    Monsters and Multiple attacks.

Apples to Applesauce Even though this is a different (and much weaker) attack, it still involves four seperate attack rolls (only if there are four different PCs in range). You used the word "attack" for "attack roll" in the case of the original Hydra Fury, so why not now? I don't see how this...

    Monsters and Multiple attacks.

It is clearly four seperate attack ROLLS, but to me, it is one ATTACK: "Hydra Fury". The problem here, as you point out below, is that 4E often intermingles the term "attack" to mean anything from an attack roll, to the use of a "power". I take it to mean the use of a power, whereas you seem to...

Staff of Defense Implement(1H or 2H)

No. Denied. First, you have to be proficient with the Parrying Dagger(or any other Defensive weapon as per the last line in the description on page 8 of AV. "To gain this benefit(the +1 to AC), you need not attack with the Defensive weapon, but you must be proficient with it." Secondly, even...

    Wand of Accuracy question

My ruling is "after". I think for this to be of ANY use at all, you have to let the player use it after the roll is made. And even then this requires a DM that tells the player the targets Defense, which apparantly most DMs don't. (I do.) Most wizards are going to have a +2 Dex bonus at best...

    Some questions about flaming sphere

Bah. Bah! It's a magic ball of fire that is under the wizard's control! Of course it can fly! (A better word may be 'float') The wizard simply points-or even just thinks- and the sphere obeys. It's magic. Oooh... Later Gruns

    Monsters and Multiple attacks.

Bite Bite Bite Bite I have a hard time seeing how this could be ruled "the other way", really. The attack power "Hydra Fury" is essentially an attack that has 4 attack rolls and potentially 4 targets. So long as the Fighter is at least one of these targets, he was included in the attack. The...

Staff of Defense Implement(1H or 2H)

One Hand I searched but couldn't find the "official answer", but I know I've read it before somewhere: You can use it as an Implement with 1 hand. To use it as a Quarterstaff(melee weapon) requires 2 hands, as normal. Later! Gruns

    Immediate Interrupts: Rule vs Etiquette?

Worst Roleplayers Ever! Hey all. Apparantly, my group and I are the worst roleplayers ever, and WE LIKE IT! As DM I roll all dice in front of everyone, do the math and ask if it hits, since I never remember my player's defense scores. We have this "game" down to a science! 1) Announce attack...

    Monsters and Multiple attacks.

Always! Every turn! Or at least every chance it can, which should be every turn. It would generally only make a basic Bite attack for Opportunity Attacks. My group is only lvl 7, so I don't have first hand experience with the Hydra, but it doesn't look all that brutal. AC, To-Hit and even...

    newbie question

And by "20 squares (50')" he of course means "20 squares (100')". But it shouldn't really matter, as we do math with squares most of the time in 4E anyway. As an addendum, the paladin can't throw the spear further than 20 squares without magical assistance or further training. (i.e, a magic...

D&D 4E How do older adventures scale in level to 4e?

Data Well, it was actually a joke, but the resulting formula and data are actual and factual. I took a random array of monsters that were in 3.5 and are also in 4E and plugged in their old CR with their new level. For example, kobolds were 1/6CR and are now generally lvl 1. Ogres...
