    Gary Gygax Movie?

Sadly enough, you were accurately informed. I wanted it to be awesome and it had a good voice cast, but it looked godawful. Anything draconian, dragon or fire was CGI and everything else was regular animation. This creates very jarring effects. Also, when you first encounter draconians in...

D&D 5E (2014) cancelled 5e announcement at Gencon??? Anyone know anything about this?

I'm very behind but: One vuvuzela included w/every PHB! It can double as a Horn of Blasting to boot :)

Could Wizards ACTUALLY make MOST people happy with a new edition?

You know, one of my really bad 3.5 experiences happened w/a group where one of the members, when we were discussing possibly starting higher than 1st level, whine that if we didn't begin at 1st level we "would never really know our characters". Really? For make believe characters in a make...

Could Wizards ACTUALLY make MOST people happy with a new edition?

I've read the GNS theory and don't believe it has any real use other than causing arguments. I listed that specific example largely from someone upthread making comments on how the group making characters knowing X is what the focus of the campaign would be about is an example of Y. I have...

    The ONE Hit Point World

Cyberpunk:2020. Their gun system was super deadly, but guns were one of the first things people would use in response to a threat. My character was killed w/in 5 minutes of the game starting, I think before I even had an action. You could always just play Rolemaster tho. Some level 1 shmoe...

Characters are too vanilla! Let's spice them up!

I've ben shown Spice before. I was in high school and it was in satellite. Eric's grandma would NOT be happy to be shown it I'm betting :) Yeah it's late and I got nothing but lame jokes heh

Could Wizards ACTUALLY make MOST people happy with a new edition?

I have hated the whole GSN Theory crap ever since it came out. It is used largely for cases like what this thread has turned into. Useless navel-gazing. I don't' find GSN useful at all. I don't think of my gaming in terms like Gamist or Simulationist. It's just crap. I thought 3.5 was...

Optimized and Non-Optimized in the same group.

We're running Revenge of the Giants and I have a Halfling Rogue Daggermaster. He's heavily optimized to the point where against most of our enemies, I hit on a 4, 2 w/combat advantage. If I charge, it's even better. Of course, last session I still missed w/3 attacks in a row. There's a...

    June Errata

Oh I'm not surprised by the change honestly, I just saw people complaining about some other things and thought it was curious such a large buff to Int/orb based casters wasn't getting commented on :)

D&D 4E What's so bad about 4th edition? What's so good about other systems?

No, you just described what White Wolf did w/the New World of Darkness :)

D&D 4E What's so bad about 4th edition? What's so good about other systems?

Uhm, what? A level 30 minion is worth 4750XP. A L4 minion is 75. I have no idea where you figured a L4 minion is worth 4750

Controller, Defender, Leader, Striker AND... a Fifth Role!?!?

That just sounds like the Bard made into an actual role. I almost played a Gnome Bard for our current campaign (went Halfling Daggermaster Rogue instead heh) and he was gonna be a lot of fun. Lowest skill was a 9, lots of attack penalties to throw out and he even had access to the Death Subway...

    June Errata

I noticed that no one has mentioned the change to the Orb of Nimble Thoughts. It's now changing from +Int to Initiative to +enhancement bonus. No more buying a sub 1k gold OH item to add +5 or 6 to your init mod.

    Is Pathfinder outselling D&D?

I'm one who was definitely tired of 3.5 and didn't feel Pathfinder fixed much that needed fixing. Good on them, but when WotC is barely producing any physical books (esp when compared to early 4E or the 3.x era), that certainly makes them less of a challenger. Paizo is judging their success on...

If it's an obvious choice then it's broken

The Swordmage Handbook is well put together. It acknowledges up front that you have crap for damage and that of the 3 types of Swordmages, the Shielding type is best supported. That said, since when do they play like other Defenders? Paladins, Wardens and Fighters all try and keep enemies...

    Monster Manual 3 New Math?

The link for MM3 on a business card was pretty great. My DM loved it when I showed it to him

Literary sources and the three-Tier campaign model

Skipping the levels just means we get to make up more story. I played w/a guy once who claimed you would never really know your character if you didn't start at 1st level. That was such crap. Yay a Feist reference :) Given how often he ends up consorting w/gods, pug certainly achieves Epic...

    Best Era of Dark Sun?

For actual game mechanics I definitely prefer the 4E version, but original box set is the best core version. I was down w/Dark Sun until about the Dragon Kings book. Shortly after that came the Revised box set and things just got weird. I was a fan of books like the Valley of Dust and Fire...

    Monster Manual 3 New Math?

oh, I made 5 of the 6 PCs and twinked us all pretty hard, but w/in the rules heh. We're pretty nasty. The first couple of encounters he saw how much we overpowered them and we all voted for new monster math for future sessions
