Well I didn't hate everything I read. If true and I mean if , 5e doesn't sound too terrible. The opposed roll thing has me divided, but could be house ruled easily if it becomes too cumbersome . The rest thing, well I am hoping this gets play tested in something a bit more functional...

I voted to keep. The idea of having the named spells be upgrades is pretty darn cool

Honestly I am going to avoid the forums once the real play test hits.

Over on the WotC blogs there was some info about still going through play test data. I bet part of the xp play test was a dry run for the public one.

What happened today?

Honestly? WotC says that 5e is for everyone but this is just marketing. Who they are really shooting for are gamers that fall between +/- 1 standard deviation of the mean. The rest WotC won't bother with as they would have to form 5e to target too small of an audience.

I am really a fan of Fantasycraft (FC). For me this is a Brilliant set of rules that got largely ignored as it's release got drowned out by two other games (4e and Pathfinder). There are some criticisms of the game which are really not fair (rules for the sake of rules which seems to be made...

The err in assumption is that if you play pathfinder, then you are a die hard fanboy. Some people play the game as it represents the best fit ( not perfect fit) for fantasy gaming. Or represents the gaming group's compromise on games to play. So for those people , then 5e gives the possibility...

and FATE has this great personality, and is lots of fun. She's nice to look at, but I can't shake the feeling that she's a little weird. And I am having a hard time wrapping my head around how she sees the world .

Yeah fantasycraft will be my go to DnD if 5e tanks.

Yeah I agree, I think Paizo will be fine. They might take a bit of a hit, but overall they are far from being sunk by a sucessful 5e.

The fact that Pathfinder has been sucessful is evidence that a lot of players will jump onto the new shiney game, if its good.
