Name Five Things You've Done That Others Probably Have Not

    1. Eaten raw caribou. 2. Sorted bags of evidence (don't ask) in 110 degree heat while wearing a Tyvek suit. 3. Had a hawk land on my head. 4. Drank shooters of Buckley's Mixture and gin. 5. Seen a guy with no eye. No glass eye, not even a patch. Yuck. As to Close Encounters of the Bear...

    Stupid Dwarf

You just described my former boss --- a cunning retarded dwarf. The high Charisma explains his never getting found out.

    Winnipeggers Unite

My, my, can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Winnipegger. I'm 33, living in Wolseley/West End but raised in EK. Well, sorta raised --- born there, then the family buggered off until we returned in my teens. In the interim we lived in Flin Flon, Red Lake, Edmonton, Red Deer, and a few...

    Ranger combo Rogue...ideas?

Maybe look at the Complete Warrior non-spellcasting variant ranger for ideas. They get increased movement rate and some temporary stat bonuses, and a bit of healing. More suitable for a survive-at-all-costs rogue-type.

    The "Gandalf" in your campaign

Teldon, former Court Wizard of Karameikos. Dottering, slightly spacey, and somewhat amoral when it comes to putting down threats to the throne. Just wait till my party loses him in a jaunt to the Far Realm. Oh don't worry --- he comes back. Mwahahaha.

    Canada... where to move?

Kinda spooky, actually... Our new house is in the West End. Needs a bit of work but it's in pretty good shape --- and still close to my beloved granola belt. Cross Portage to Wolseley and the houses are twice the price but half the weird. I wish I had been in the position to buy four years...

    Canada... where to move?

Should've been here last week. It was +20 C. Hopefully, this system will be on its way to Ontario soon...

    GNS - which are you?

10% Gamist, 50% Narrativist, 40% Simulationist. As a player, I'm more interested in a character's decision making, as viewed in context. As a DM, I have some control over that context and I like to see the decisions that my players make. I'm also a big believer in 'method gaming' --- food...

Tell me about languages in your game

I'm running an historical game set in the 1400s, so this will be a bit more involved than the core rules. Characters are assumed to be human for this campaign, and magic is decidedly low. * There is no 'Common', although in particular time periods and regions there will be a dominant tongue...

Power Attack too useful? When is it NOT taken?

Not that bad a solution, for lower levels, anyway. (I have yet to see Epic-level anything in any of our games, so the DR issue may be a moot point.)

Power Attack too useful? When is it NOT taken?

My only complaint with PA is with it having no upper ceiling save the character's BAB. Combat Expertise has that +5 cap, and the difference bugs me for some reason. Mostly because we play a swashbuckly game and the big guy with PA seems too effective. That's probably just a relative thing...

    Illegal Magic Items

Scrying items (crystal balls and the like) are another easy target. Everyone likes their privacy. Teleportation doodads and magic are another iffy area but easier to restrict rather than outlaw --- I can see high magic cities avoiding the matter by casting dimensional anchor all over the place.

    Illegal Magic Items

Magic arms and armour are the province of nobles or military, and the average schmuck had better have a good reason for having one. I'd imagine rules like this would show up in high-Law societies run by hobgoblins or accountants.

    Tell me about Earthdawn

...and is it just me, or do Goliaths (from Races of Stone) remind one a lot of Earthdawn's Obsidimen?

    Tell me about Earthdawn

Weird and wonderful, with a macabre element. Our party of 'heroes' kept delving into the ruins of Parlainth like ADHD monkeys on crack. "We're short half the players tonight? Ah, let's explore Parlainth." "I'm still wounded? Let's explore Parlainth." "You bought a blood-smeared map that could...

Lords of Madness: The Book of Aberrations

Another good review, John. A book well worth picking up. I agree that my hopes were up at the book's beginning for a relatively error-free product; alas. I came away with the impression that most of the boo-boos were in the latter half of the book. Maybe the cavalry tires early. The...

    Druid vs. Spirit Shaman

I prefer the fluff associated with the Spirit Shaman, though I suspect that the Druid is a better combat choice (particularly at higher levels, what with all this wildshaping business). I also like the breadth of the critters identified as 'spirits' --- it unifies the ecology somewhat and adds...

    Do you train your players?

My players get little feed pellets when they successfully disarm traps.
