    She's one of us

I decided on the outline of the adventure and started on the maps last night. My group uses a projector, so she asked that we use it for her as well. So maptools it is. The last time we played, they chased an evil wizard up his tower, but he escaped. Well, he's back again. He's kidnapped...

    She's one of us

Later this month, my daughter will turn 8. A little over a year ago, she was interested in what D&D was, mainly, just the minis. Anyway, we played a few makeshift sessions and then I let her sit in with my regular group for about an hour. No one really rolled up characters, except her, and...

Your favorite sword from D&D lore

It was the Sword of Kas for me as well.

    Lost Caverns of Tsojanth...

Effectively a TPK, we got trapped and the only way out was to levitate. Fly was not listed as an option. No one could levitate, so we ended it there. That being said, our current 4e campaign is coming to a close and I know we're going to try a lot of AD&D, so this will certainly make my list.

    Looking for a blog writeup

A little while ago I remember reading a blog entry by a DM about his players planning to assault a massive ship. I believe it was on the astral sea. If I recall correctly, the planning took the better part of the session. I like the idea and would like to steal/modify it to meet my needs...

    Maps/Tiles or Dry/Wet Erase?

We just had this discussion 2 nights ago. I use a projector and maptools, so some of my maps get pretty detailed. One of the guys said sometimes he missed the old dry erase markers as it left more of the visualization up to him. Yet, our Wizard was more than happy to hide behind a huge barrel...

    Tabletop Projection

That they will. If I ever get my wife to join us consistently, she'll probably claim that seat on all but the hottest nights.

    Campaign organizer software

I see the problem with One Note. I'll be using it for DM info. For the players, I keep a basic blog with what happened each session. It's not the best solution, but it has proven valuable. The biggest headache is I have to write it to make sure all the relevant information is included. And...

    Tabletop Projection

I'm going to have to. I've seen some people create a cardboard duct to funnel the heat to an exhaust fan. I've already picked up a couple large PC fans, and since I'll be stuffing a PC in the table, I'll be able to steal power from there. I'll probably add some holes in the bottom to allow...

    Tabletop Projection

Not to brag about them too much, but that was last year. This year, for Christmas, they all chipped in and I'm building a Multi Touch table to put the projector in. https://sites.google.com/site/mtgametable/

    LCD Gamign Tables?

I'm in the process of building a Multi Touch table. You can find my documented efforts here: https://sites.google.com/site/mtgametable/ I'm pretty close to finishing the table at this point. Since we game in my family room, my wife gave me a list of requirements....after I started...

    P90x

Bullgrit, I have the exact same sentiment regarding Insanity. I'm 38, I've done it, and won't do it again. It's just too much beating on my body. I did it after 2 rounds of P90x and was afraid my knees wouldn't be particularly happy. Surprisingly, they held up, but I could not have done...

    Campaign organizer software

If you have it, Microsoft OneNote is a great tool. I've just started using it at work and will certainly use it for my next campaign. You can paste pretty much anything into it and organize it in a myriad of ways.

    Tabletop Projection

Just curious what your budget is? I picked up a 3500 lumen unit for $200. Fortunately, my players chipped in as well, which was a plus.

    P90x

I finished round 4 and then had to take a break. Mentally it was just too hard to get up every morning and workout. I recently picked up Supreme 90, it's a cheap P90x copy. You can read my overall impression of it here: Josh's Fitness Blog: P90x vs Supreme 90 Day And my review of the first...

    Maps/Tiles or Dry/Wet Erase?

I've tried a lot of those. We started with a dry erase board and the occasional cardboard cut out. Moved on to dundjinni and printed out the maps, taping them together. That was too much effort. I looked at the Wizard's tiles, but found them too limiting. We had used mini's up to this...

Introducing 10 year olds to D&D

Sounds like it will be a great time. I've considered doing this with my kids and my brother's kids. Just to let them know what their dad's do every other Wednesday. Make sure you get all the really good, fantasy parts. I remember the room of pools and the corridor with the wind...20+ years...

Getting my younger children involved in RPG

My experience has been 4e is a little slow for kids. They don't appreciate the tactical part. I'm not trying to start an edition way, but with a 7 year old, I threw out most of the rules and used AD&D as a basic guide. Combat gets streamlined quite a bit and her imagination gets to run wild...

Help! Advice for things to include in a low-level AD&D adventure

Last year I ran Ghost Tower of Inverness for my 4E'rs. Including character generation, it took about 8 hours total. It's a fun adventure as there is some of that old AD&D weirdness to it. Being that it was written for a Con, it's a quick play and there is even a scoring system.

    Which Gadget?

I'm going to diverge here and say a projector. It has changed the way we play. We use maptools(which is free) and every map can be new and exciting. Not the same old tiles, or boring whiteboard. Just my 2 cents.
