That is true, but it is an official release from WotC, as opposed to the 100 or so homebrew versions that people of created. If an when an official version is released, it will be closer to the one we have already seen.

They stated it would be a monthly article, so far it's come out the first week of the previous months. I had thought that it was at the beginning, but MerricB pointed out that it will most likely be the first Monday of the month, which is coming up. So the confusion is all on my part.

The only thing I think 5e needs is some easy Naval Combat rules that are written for 5e.

They did mention that the episodes will eventually show up on Youtube.
