D&D 4E Should spellcasters still be priority targets in 4e?

It depends on the situation, but I'd say that the wizard is a tempting target for most monsters. In my opinion, the damage output between a striker and a controller - while noticeable - isn't all that vast, particularly if you have a damage-oriented controller. So I think the wizard is still...

    D&D 4E 4E Class Survivor - Round 6

I don't like the V-shaped classes, but for some reason this round the barbarian annoyed me. As far as invoker goes, people like Gandalf, Buddha, and Moses remind me of various builds of invokers. Iconic wardens might be Beorn, Treebeard, the Green Knight, the Sasquatch(!), or the various...

    attacking without attacking

I guess my question to those DMs who are "strict constructionists" is what purpose is served by not allowing the scenario in question to happen? Particularly if the player is shortchanging themselves, as they are doing in this case. Someone could respond by saying "Well, what purpose is...

    attacking without attacking

Well, FWIW I think you made the right call "by the book." But I probably would have just let him teleport without making attacks. In general, I feel a power shows what the PC is entitled to do. If a PC doesn't want to utilize the full scope of his entitlement, that's the PC's prerogative...

Charge! Should I be worried about this druid?

I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, I'd try to find ways to let him charge at least once a fight. He obviously wants to play that I kind of character, so I say let him have fun. And if he out-damages the ranger, good! We can use it as evidence that the 4e roles are more flexible than what...

    What is Shadow's schtick?

I think the Shadow source will focus on misdirection, enervation, and death. Common keywords for hexes will be cold, fear, necrotic, and poison. I'd say that the general theme will be Controller secondary in nature.

I have DMGII and Revenge of the Giants

Would you mind sharing more about the Rod of Seven Parts? It's the big MacGuffin for my current 4e game, and I was wondering what level it was. A +7 enhancement bonus might put the assembled Rod just a wee bit outside my current Paragon tier campaign... ;)

    It's Dark Sun

Paragon paths, perhaps? Well, there are already a few classes that have powers doing damage to allies. Dark pact warlocks are probably the most well know example. I have a feeling that templars will pretty much be statted up as paladins.

Absolutely vital core races in D&D

Perhaps before 4e came out I might have said humans, dwarves, halflings, half-elves, elves, gnomes and half-orcs. But with the advent of 4e, I can't imagine D&D without dragonborn, tieflings, or eladrin. There are a few "new" races that have a great D&D vibe, but they aren't "essential" IMO -...

    DMG II Talk...

The non-magic item rewards and info about the Rod of Seven Parts are what appeal to me the most. My campaign is currently revolving around the Ro7P. :)

D&D 4E Greyhawk 4e: Back to the Beginning...

How so? I always thought it would make a great 4e adventure. (as it would in all rpgs, frankly)

Why I think you should try 4e (renamed)

EDIT - Never mind this post.

    Are you tired of conditions?

I think one way to help ameliorate the game-slowing effects of these conditions is to be a bit more loose with the rules and let players attempt stunts to grant extra saves and the like. For example, in our game last night three PCs got hit with a restraining AoE power (basically, a bunch of...

    Metallic Dragons: Unaligned!?

I've never pitted the PCs against a metallic. However, in earlier editions I've often thought that while metallics were benign to mortal races, they were benign in the same way that most humans are to, say, insects. That is, metallics were willing to let mortals be for the most part, but the...

    The Poll of All Polls

Orcus strikes me as having more ambition than Demogorgon, and is easier to use in a game IMO. If I were to run an "Against the Demons" campaign, by late epic tier Orcus would usurp Demogorgon's "title" as Prince of Demons through some nefarious Machiavellian scheme.

    The redefinition of feats.

Indeed. I also think "Feats" is a better word for Martial powers than "Exploits," notwithstanding that recent Dragon article where they said otherwise. :)

    Monk Preview

No. It's a little like battle clerics or avenging paladins. For both builds the primary ability is Str, but the divine source is all about channelling the power of the gods. Sure, both battle clerics and avenging paladins have to have at least one mental stat (Wis or Cha) be pretty good, but...

    Monk Preview

It's on page 67: I may have been unclear when I said "automatically." What I meant was, they didn't need to pick up a feat to enchant their fists, not that they automatically get a free enchant. Sorry for any confusion.

    Monk Preview

Actually, the article states that "monk unarmed strikes" (MUS) can be enchanted. It's kind of neat from a flavor perspective, in my opinion. The monk basically spends a lot of time and resources training his body to do these supernatual things. Now, with your level limit, you bring up an...
