Thanks to everyone who answered my question!

    Alternate Paladin Class Features

Originally I had it so that it was to attacks against any defense (AC, Fort, Ref, Will), but I changed it because it felt too strong if it was to all of those. But I'm not completely set on the current version - I need to playtest this a few times to see if it feels right. It does. But, my...

    Alternate Paladin Class Features

I'm redesigning paladins so that they're Cha primary and decided that, while I'm at it, I might as well give them some neato class features. Basically, I've decided that like how invokers have Covenants, paladins have Callings. I have three that I'm working on: Protector's Calling (tankadin)...

    Overwriting Marks

When a fighter marks a creature that under the effects of the paladin's Divine Challenge, the fighter's mark overwrites the paladin's mark and ends Divine Challenge. Say a paladin uses Divine Challenge on a target, then uses Piercing Smite (which marks the target and a number of other adjacent...

Stephen Schubert is the new D&D Lead developer

For those who know more than I about the gaming industry, what is the difference between a Lead Developer and a Lead Designer?

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

I agree, and I think the WoW analogy is apt, particularly now that D&D has the Compendium. The convenience of the Compendium makes it much easier for Wizards to update D&D without forcing people to buy new books. And for those without the Compendium, Wizards can still publish update pdfs...

    Codex of Betrayal: Alloces

I thought of the Devourers from Demon: the Fallen. :D

Which PHB2 classes do you not find interesting

In general, I think the PH 2 classes are definitely more polished and coherently designed than the PH 1 classes. PH 2 classes tend to have just one primary ability score and allow players to choose one of two neat class features based on secondary ability scores. The PH 1 classes that are most...

Which PHB2 classes do you not find interesting

I want to play an invoker who shouts "Angelic hordes come forth!" every time he summons an angel.

    Assassins in PHB3

I now no longer think we're going to see a necromancer class. Rather, in keeping with The City Entombed article, necromancy will be a style of magic available to any magic using class. So clerics, swordmages, avengers, wizards, etc. all have the potential to be necromancers in their own ways.

I Want to do Everthing - The Half Elf Bard

If the second paragraph started with something like "While a creature is marked by you..." then I'd agree with you. But the second paragraph begins with "while a target is marked..." A target of what? The targeting power in this case is Divine Challenge. The monster who is attacked by...

    4e Modern

I'd love to see other genres (espionage, super heroes, Old West, sci fi, etc.) use 4e's concepts. I'd love having roles, because they help make combat more enjoyable for me. However, I hit a wall when I think about Defenders in some modern style games (Old West, Espionage, etc.), because...

Dragon 373: Ecology of the Sharn

This is a neat article. I like learning more about Tharizdun, and I want to work him in as an adversary in one of my games. The sharn also strike me as suggestive of the qlippoth from Kabalistic Judaism. Basically, qlippoth are the evil husks and detritus of a previous universe. Suppressed...

Have you had a problem with "character dumping"

I guess it does boil down to function versus dysfunctional behavior (it would get annoying to have a player play a new PC ever session), but in general I'm supportive of "dumping" characters. People often get bored with PCs or are attracted to another option, so I say what the heck. I don't...

Who heals in a Druidic society?

I think you're getting hung up on the real world meanings of "druid" and "shaman" instead of the D&D meanings (4e and otherwise) of those words. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "druidic society," but the way I'd try to model real world Druids in D&D is to make them a group consisting of...

    Favourite Warlock Pact

I like infernal pact the best, because I believe all warlocks should be Con-based, but I also like the effectiveness and utility of the pact. However, as far as style goes, starlocks do indeed top the list.

Photos of the new Gnome (PHB2)

I agree with you basically, although I would have use the name "kender" for 4e halflings and just redefined what kender means. But otherwise, I feel halflings and gnomes are pretty distinct. Halflings are outgoing, happy-go-lucky gypsy types. Gnomes are cunning, manipulative, and sly types.

Photos of the new Gnome (PHB2)

I think the direction of the new gnomes is great. I find them fully distinct from elves, eladrin, or whatever. I think any similarities between the fey races is just that - they are all fey, and this is what the fey tend to look like. I have a soft spot for gnomes that I think dates back to...
