D&D is not a supers game.

Awesome and D&D peaked at the same time. Mr. Spicoli if you please... Awesome! - YouTube I'd rather have PCs be well above your average slack jawed yokel right from level one.

    Base measurement in DDN

Somewhat joking, there was a push in the late 1970s to try to get Americans to convert, but it was widely rejected in most spheres of average American life. The push went away as suddenly as it appeared, so it seemed like disco, a fad.

D&D 5E (2014) The cover of the 5E PHB: What I'd like to see

I'd keep the original 1e cover scene with the giant devil statue, but mostly repopulate it with characters from the other editions.

Still one make-or-break issue for me...

Hasbro/ WOTC's decision on the OGL/ GSL issue would be just about the last thing I'd consider in making my decision on 5e.

Daily Powers don't belong on the Fighter

The fighter should get one surge for each can of spinach he carries. I hope the martial classes keep daily powers and that the Warlord is in 5e.

    D&D 5E (2014) I Don't Like Damage On A Miss

I can see it working, but only against multiple adjacent opponents. I missed the goblin I was aiming at with my sword, but it hit the one next to him and hit for x damage.
  7. Invisible Stalker

    Base measurement in DDN

I'm one of the few that does use yards often since I'm a golfer. Meters are part of that metric system fad they tried pushing on us back in the 1970s. I'll stick with five feet/ square.

CON no longer useful for boosting HP

You spend points, I'm rolling a high number. :p

    Playtesters: Are you using miniatures?

Considering the money I've sunk into this plasticrack, we're playing with miniatures until I die. Yes minis, enjoy rules

    Cleric Comparisons: Pelor vs. Moradin

I like both clerics. I hope to see a lot of different ones as we go forward.

Spells that should be rituals or cantrips.

Of the ones I've seen so far... Alarm: spell or ritual Arc lightning: spell Burning Hands: spell Charm Person: spell Comprehend Languages: spell or ritual Continual Light: spell Detect Magic: cantrip Grease: spell Hold Person: spell Light: cantrip Mage Hand: cantrip Magic Missile: spell...

    Is this WotC's pipe dream?

I'm in the same boat, if need be I can just alternate from 1e to 4e. I'm sure that I'll buy the initial round of books for 5e and give it a campaign to try it out, but at best it will just be a part of the rotation.

    The "Smell Test"

I identify with 1E, 4E and BECMI in that order and it smells fine. It's a long long way to go before a real taste test can occur.

So the playtest is out: What do you think? The EN World poll!

A nice middle of the road good, but it's early days yet.

Combat issues: slayer + at-will magic missile.

How much wind does it take for the kite to carry a can of Spam up in the air?

Back to the Three Type of fights

I like all kinds of fights. If it's a squash match, I'll use my Summon Road Warriors spell. :p
  17. Invisible Stalker

Smite as the signature move of Paladins.

Or we could finish the loop back by making the Paladin a class for those who roll their ability scores really well. Paladin and the Ranger should be classes that make the ordinary fighter look like a bum. Not having my second favorite class (after Wizard another hissy fit causing class) would...

The playtest reports really demonstrate ...

I thought it was the gold standard of introductory dungeons three decades ago and I haven't changed my mind since.

    Advantages / Disadvantages

Bad example on my part, I just think there will be an outcry to get the advantage system ratios locked down (with a chart) and not be left to DM judgement.

    Combat Speed Comparison

Much quicker than 3e/4e, I'll wait and see where it falls on the fun combat/ minutes spent on combat ratio.
