    4E Class Survivor - Round 4

I swear if the warden sings "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," one more time, there's going to be trouble. :p

    4E Class Survivor - Round 4

A Hershey's Bar without the almonds is still far better than a granola bar. :D And it's good enough to make the Invoker one of the top five classes for me.

What 4E books should I get for a new campaign?

I can't speak for the DDI. I'd get the PHBII first for the extra classes and races that are at least as good as volume 1. Then MMII, which can really help on the variety of your heroic tier encounters. For a DM the Adventurer's Vault is probably the next stop. For the players it would be...

    4E Class Survivor - Round 4

A neat trick considering it's the least interesting controller. :p The 4e Bard is interesting enough that this is the first time I've ever thought about being one in 28 years. I'm off, my goody goody paladin needs to go harsh someone's buzz. :)

3rd Party Products - Do You Care?

Condition chips (marked, bloodied, cursed etc.) are my sole third party purchase for 4e so far. Adventures would be a long shot. Maps would good. Monster and character option books have no chance. First edition settings and adventures reimagined for 4e would be given top priority.

Really, how important is the system/edition?

It's vital that the group and game are both satisfactory. When looking for a game, I look for system first then see if there's a group running that system I want to play with.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Is it evidence that new editions don't need to be that different?

In my own case, the switch between 3 and 3.5 was not nearly enough. As a result, I went back to 1e for the 3.5 era. WOTC had to radically change things for me to pick up 4e and in my case (and much to my surprise) they succeeded. I finally saw a copy of Pathfinder at the FLGS yesterday, but I...

[D&D Collectors] Do you have everything? (And a poll about your buying habits)

I guess I fall in the regular collector zone. I've got about 2/3 of the 4E books printed so far, but that percentage looks to drop in the months ahead. My 4E collection just passed the size of my 3E collection, but still has to catch up to AD&D. I also have a few Basic D&D items.

    4E Class Survivor - Round 2

 I played the same two characters and had a diametrically opposed opinion. The Invoker's Astral Shift of the party to the high ground in round one was considered by the group as the MVP move of the day. The Invoker may not challenge my holy trinity of wizard, paladin and cleric, but it...

    4E Class Survivor - Round 2

I agree and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. Barbarians, Warlocks and Swordmages need to be shown the door as well.

    4E Class Survivor - Round 1

No matter the edition, the thief (rogue) is my least favorite class.

What Alignment system do you use now?

I'm still using the old 9 alignment grid from AD&D.

What do you try and achieve with your character?

    Mechanically sound cliched boy scouts.

Boxed set versus Hardcover - FIGHT!

Either one is fine. I prefer both by light years over PDFs. I came into D&D with THE box set in 1981.

An observation and hopefully some wisdom

In comic books I call it the "Clark Kent Disguise Syndrome." They can't believe anyone can disguise themselves with just a pair of glasses. The faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and the able to leap tall buildings parts get a free pass though.

Lawful Good Tyranny - How would this look?

I'm not sure what it would look like, but I think the theme song would be "It's a Small World After All." ;)

A road not taken: What if there had been no 4E

I skipped 3.5 entirely as I was fed up with the system by then. 3E drove me back to playing 1E again. If 4E hadn't come out, WOTC would be out a few hundred dollars in book purchases. I wouldn't have got minis so Auggie would be out some money. The big loser of playing time is Mutants and...

    Hello fellow GRONARDS!

You get it back by correctly using the term "soak off maneuver" during an encounter. :)

    Hello fellow GRONARDS!

Hello fellow grognards. I starting playing board wargames at about the same time as I started with D&D. I've never pushed lead either, but I prefer things more at the strategic level so it's cardboard chits all the way. My favorites are Empires in Arms, Advanced Civilization (Avalon Hill)...

    4E Miniatures Buying Advice

It looks like Auggie has reloaded his store as I type this. Lots of cheap commons and uncommons including kobolds, orcs, goblins, zombies and skeletons. Strike quickly my friends. :)
