How long do we wait for WoTC to speak?

You are being pretty dismissive of someone who has been in the industry for decades, has nothing to gain either way from speaking the truth on the subject, and actually isn't out to paint wotc as the bad guy at all if you just watch the interview. But I get the feeling that you have an opinion...

How long do we wait for WoTC to speak?

Actually, according to the interview with RD, it took them 20 years to notice! I think you should just watch the interview with Ryan Dancey, it would answer a lot of of these things without me having to explain. Hear it from the guy who had it all drafted in the first place.

How long do we wait for WoTC to speak?

Have to disagree on one important point: Ryan Dancey left wotc in 2002, and in the interview yesterday with roll for combat he explained that the wotc FAQ was not made by him, it was made after he left. That means that wotc, not Ryan Dancey, wrote the FAQ & included the decision to allow...

    Come back?

They can't pry your old books out of your hands, but they can attempt to prevent any new OSR material from hitting the market if they follow through with the 1.1 OGL.

    Going Nuclear:1D&D

Agreed. If people had more time to transition away from or into the new license it wouldn't be so draconian to 3pp's.

    Going Nuclear:1D&D

This affects the entire industry not just those who signed the NDA. The NDA's expired on the 4th, the same date wotc were expected to make a public announcement. That means that they were to be giving public notice on the fourth that all the 1.0a OGL was unauthorized "on or after the 13th of...

Cory Doctorow writes about the OGL 1.1

Later open software licenses were updated to include the word irrevocable, but the 1.0a was never updated to keep it safe from exactly what wotc is pulling today. It was a mistake that 3pp's are now paying for.

    Going Nuclear:1D&D

You don't seem to understand. In two days, by the document, no 1.0a OGL products are authorized. That's thousands of products that have to be pulled from the market on friday. Do you not see the amount of damage that has caused? Companies are liquidating inventory at firesale prices.

    Going Nuclear:1D&D

dude, the contract gave 3pp's a week to sign or lose everything OGL related forever. Nobody has a year to ride this out. There are two days left until its the 13th, the reported deadline to sell any and all 1.0a OGL products before they are unauthorized.

    D&D 5E (2014) I still want D&D and Beyond, but...

Exactly. I think we have heard the worst of it, the rest is coming to terms with the facts, and trying to find a path forward through the wake.

    D&D 5E (2014) I still want D&D and Beyond, but...

That I do understand. I was just trying to detail what has helped me cope with the recent developments. The community is more unified right now than it has been in a long time, there may be individual arguments, but overall I haven't ever seen this many people against a new NOGL/ GSL 2.0. I...

Ryan Dancey -- Hasbro Cannot Deauthorize OGL

Its very possible that the decisions were compartmentalized, and the people who could have made a difference from within didn't find out until it was too late.

    D&D 5E (2014) I still want D&D and Beyond, but...

Hopefully there will be some light at the end of the tunnel. Personally, I have spent the last three days making my own rpg from scratch, and its been really a liberating experience not to be bound by the OGL, the natural wording, or any of the other trappings of making OGL compatible material...

Ryan Dancey -- Hasbro Cannot Deauthorize OGL

The more they tighten their grasp, the more 3pp's will slip through their fingers.

    D&D 5E (2014) I still want D&D and Beyond, but...

With every day that goes by, that seems more unlikely. I think that they are deliberately staying silent until the 13th to see just how many companies sign the new agreement before they decide to make their own statement. Reversing course for the company, that has been planning a complete...

New OGL - what would be acceptable? (+)

If you read the full 1.1 available here on the forums, you will see that they can revoke the license at any time, and they can also change the terms of the license at any time. Anyone who has signed the new license making 50k or more will potentially be at risk of paying royalties, having their...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Honestly, this post has waaaaay to many negative and divisive opinions about people in general for me to take seriously. Not to mention, you have literally taken all my comments out of context. I am not trying to argue with you, I am trying to have a meaningful dialogue about the subject.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Referring to people as the mob isn't helping, its just another generalization. Never said you claimed anything, but I am asking you a question: -would you rather no one cared at all?- ---> to clarify: I mean given the two choices, I would prefer that people were aware of the issue. Even with...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Isn't education a thing? Are you saying individuals can't research subjects of their own accord and come to their own conclusions? That's pretty dismissive of people in general. I'll ask you again, would you rather no one cared at all?

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Well, hopefully learning about the situation will motivate more individuals to educate themselves on the subject. Besides, how is that worse than no one caring about this at all?
