    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

This comment is also very misleading, as some of the best looking ttrpg's were made in the 90's, many of which only had black & white art. Artists like Tim Bradstreet, RK Post, Clint Langley, and thousands of manga artists like Katsuya Terada would strongly disagree with you. Black and white...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

I don't really see the connection between successful kickstarters and wotc, I think you will have to clarify this so I can understand better what you are trying to say about them being correlated. Yes, making a ttrpg can be expensive. But i think that perhaps expectations could be shifted a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

I disagree with this. Wotc adds lead to people buying wotc products, they have significantly less impact on that kickstarters sales due to the fact that the creator literally has their own youtube channel and a lot of followers, making for their own "ecosystem" completely divorced from anything...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Well, we do live in a capitalist society, curious... I do understand your position, I just don't think it draws much water. MCDM just made i think 4 million? Did they rely on wotc or dnd at all for their kickstarter? Shadowdark & Mothership made over a million this last year. This website has...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Ok, I am going to disagree with you on this... I would need to see some kind of proof that the lack of corporate presence in the industry would lead to stagnation. At the moment, I would actually argue the opposite, that wotc has contributed to the rate of stagnation, as you either have to make...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

I do get what you are saying, but all of these theories hinge on the assumption that the industry has some kind of unlimited growth potential, that's just not the case. We may have already hit peak dnd, we won't know until we see a decline (like during the OGL debacle, but long term). There is...

D&D General Industry Veteran Jennell Jaquays Passes

I think I remember her doing some work on the Quake games, (Quake 2?), not part of the ttrpg scene, but still a great contribution to gaming. An incredibly talented artist. You will be sorely missed. R.I.P.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

I seem to remember back in the 90's that TSR was in decline (before wotc bought dnd), and other ttrpg's were doing just fine. In fact, without TSR at the head of the pack, it gave a lot of other games room to breathe and grow. Cyberpunk 2020, Underground, Shadowrun, Paranoia, Rifts, VtM, WoD...

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

Yeah I agree, I was basically just responding quickly to the post to address the most surface-level problems I had with the images. I have said as much regarding the deeper issues in previous posts in the past months, such as the problematic nature of the LAION 5B training dataset (starting...

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

Honestly, you lost me at the long prompts, I don't use the tools, and when I send a commission to an artist, i use natural language to convey what I am aiming for with the piece. Looking at the bottom of your post, what you asked for in the commission is absolutely fine, just that in the future...

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

Absolutely no offense intended, but as a (former freelance & currently active) visual artist, and the current art director for my project, I would not accept art that is what I would consider unfinished. Missing fingers, mismatched proportions, mismatched eyes, poor composition, all of these...

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

Sub-par because in your examples, the text is literally illegible, eyes don't match, hands in the third pic are mutant hands, I could go on and on... The work it takes to fix these pieces, you might as well just start from scratch, and not put yourself at risk of violating another artists...

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

Fair enough. I for one, will not touch the tools with a ten foot pole. Adobe adopting the tools is fine for them, but not for the way I make art. My personal reason for making art is both to have a creative outlet, and as a therapeutic activity to get my mind off of daily stress and routines...

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

This is why I dumped Adobe suite for GIMP more than a year ago (i think its been almost two years now). Its free, and there is no chance of accidentally incorporating ai tools into your work.

AI Art Removed From Upcoming Terminator RPG Book

Sadly, I have to agree. Artists are in a really difficult position right now and I don't see things improving until we do establish some kind of guidelines for ethical uses for the tools. Unfortunately, the walled garden approach is their current strategy (and not a new one). Its akin to...

AI Art Removed From Upcoming Terminator RPG Book

I have been saying this all year. News and social media are trying to convince people that these tools are going to "increase innovation and productivity", but what good are these tools (I should say toys, really) if you can't copyright anything made with them? What exactly are these tools...

Multiple "AI Art" Updates and Controversies in Tabletop Gaming

Stock art from many stock providers give a high-res sample image (like adobe stock art), upload that to the detector before you buy (this only applies to single images). As for stock art "bundles," well, that gets riskier as you cant get samples of all the work you are buying and I don't have a...

Multiple "AI Art" Updates and Controversies in Tabletop Gaming

Gotcha. You can upload stock art into detectors the same as any other image right from the net. I did hear about that happening with stock art, so its probably a good practice going forward to test any art you plan on using, stock or not.

Multiple "AI Art" Updates and Controversies in Tabletop Gaming

google "ai art detectors" and you will get links to multiple free AI detectors that can spot if art was ai-generated or not. Simply drag the image in question to the detector and it tells you if it was made by a human. These detectors are pretty good, but not perfect though. I have seen many...

Patreon Halo Zix Presents: Splicer Gears: Shards of Chimerix

I updated my free blog here, including the entire Awakened Powers preview list for my upcoming ttrpg Splicer Gears. This should give you a good idea of the amount of work I have done on creating an exhaustive list of tiered superpowers (featuring 40 power categories and over 400 individual...
