D&D General How Do You Fix a Campaign? (Rime of the Frostmaiden spoilers)

I agree with much of this. Episodic can be good if you sprinkle in monster of the week and lore episodes at the right ratios to keep the players invested.

D&D General Monsters from secondary Monster Manuals you got a lot of fun out

Lords of Madness is a great book. I love me some far realmesque plots.

D&D General How Do You Fix a Campaign? (Rime of the Frostmaiden spoilers)

For relatively new players keep it focussed and simple. The vast majority of the first few sessions in my campaigns are just about getting the characters working with each other doing a little quest that doesn’t really have any world building. Focussed, simple, short.

D&D General Monsters from secondary Monster Manuals you got a lot of fun out

I really like using Obyriths in my game.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

I can see how water could be destroyed by magic- as is indicated by the text. But as I said- plants get ashed as as a by product the water gets ashed too, in the same way the cellulose is ashed. If you had a dead leaf next to a bucket of water and defiled nothing would happen to either of them...

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

Are you sure? I've just had a quick look and I can't find any reference to the effects of defiling.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

I think I might get it: S/he thinks with the changes to the existence of the Gods and the attachment of Eberron to the core D&D cosmology mean that Eberron is no longer it's own thing equal in cosmological scope to Forgotten Realms but now just a sub setting within the over arching Forgotten...

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

No reason why it shouldn't. The concept of the Weave is a perfectly fine explanation for magic. For me having a more brutal, unforgiving source of magic fits my idea of Dark Sun but horses for course and all that. It like when I run a game in the Realms psionics (when anyone uses it) comes...

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

See, I don't understand why this is important. 4th ed Dark Sun said that the Gods died in the Dawn War which is in direct contradiction to the law in the 2nd ed/3.5E lore. In 2nd ed Athas was a planet and in 4th ed it was a point of stability in the elemental chaos or something along those...

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

I don't remember that being so. Do you have a page number? I have all the books so if you point me in the right direction I can stand corrected.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

You’re free to have that as your home brew lore for you game but that is not how it works in Dark Sun. If you added a pot plant to the bucket example the spell would ash the plant but the level of water in the bucket would not change. The Sea of Silt was a result of the Brown Tide and the use...

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

That’s a strange way to see it. Were I to run a Dark Sun game there would be no paladins but Faerun would exist and have paladins.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

What? The example was specifically a bucket of water in an area with no life. The spell would not work but the water would remain in the bucket.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

Not in the bucket in the Obsidian Plain example it wouldn’t. The spell simple would not work.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

I disagree. In my current game we have played the last four years in the Forgotten Realms setting but Krynn still exists. As does Athas.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

No. What makes you say that?

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

Standing in the middle of the Obsidian Plain with a bucket of water would not allow you to use magic. The desiccation is a side effect. Like how when you burn wood the ash has no water left in it but that water was not required for the burning.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

I guess you could. But that would mean I’m not playing the Dark Sun I know and love from the before times but playing a significantly different game with the same name.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

This is incorrect. The life force from plants fuels the spell. Dragon magic pulls life force from animals as well. In the Obsidian Plain far to the south where a magical disaster ‘glassed’ vast areas there is no life and wizards cannot use their spells as there is no life energy to use.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

This phrase does not fit with the standard Dark Sun metaphysic. A 2nd Ed Detect Magic spell does not detect psionics. That’s what the power Detect Psionics is for. 4the Ed tried to jam a lot into Dark Sun that is at odds with the first two editions of Dark Sun.
