What about a book of "character development"?

It might be interesting to have a book which discusses the most common background choices, what kind of play they tend to inspire, and (for the DM) what kinds of things a given background might imply about the player's preferences. It would also be interesting to discuss what very common...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Psionics.

The few parts of it which aren't too weak to live are brokenly strong. There are detailed reviews out there on the net. I suggest looking into some of them. Cheers, -- N

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Psionics.

The book entitled "Psionics Handbook" is 3.0 (not 3.5) and is terrible. The book entitled "Expanded Psionics Handbook" is 3.5 and is excellent. You can get most of the value of the latter from the online SRD. Cheers, -- N

    E6 SRD - community project

Wow, lots of progress! I'll take a whack at proof reading something this weekend. Regarding Prestige Classes, I'm in favor of just dropping them. The major culprit is the Assassin: a Rogue 5 / Assassin 1 is just plain better than a Rogue 6, because of the +1d6 Sneak Attack damage. Normally...

    Ah! What Edition to use?

I suspect those people are in groups which enjoy the give-and-take of improv acting. Have you ever seen kids stop playing pretend to argue for an hour over whether someone was or wasn't shot by an imaginary gun? That's what you risk when at least one participant cares more for his sense of...

WFRPG 3E: How's It Working out for You?

The WFRP 3e dice aren't hard to analyze at all. That's actually what makes the system so elegant: it's easy to see how hard a task really is, and it's easy to know the worst & best that can happen. Also, player choice really matters (for e.g. stance when rolling). See here for some examples...

WFRPG 3E: How's It Working out for You?

The dice mechanic: love. It's annoying that I have to buy new dice for this specific game, but I really like how expressive the dice can be, both in pool building and in interpreting the results. The "classes" (careers): way more balanced than 1e, that's for sure. Perhaps even more balanced...

    D&D 3.x Why be a 3.5 monk?

Correlation, not causation. The Barbarian came out fine. Cheers, -- N

Horzon Walker's Planar Terrain Mastery Alternative

I dunno if Quicken SLA will work on full-round action SLAs? Quicken Spell doesn't work on spells with a casting time longer than a Standard action. @ Corwin of Amber: yep, that ought to be safely within the rules. Cheers, -- N

Horzon Walker's Planar Terrain Mastery Alternative

Yep, paragraph 2 explicitly allows you to make OAs with it until the start of your next turn. Eldritch Glaive is a Least invocation, so you can fit it in with Flee the Scene easy... but attacking with it is always a full-round action. Cheers, -- N

Horzon Walker's Planar Terrain Mastery Alternative

BFC? Sounds like you'd be better with Warlock and that Glaive invocation (which gives you a melee touch attack with reach and is generally awesome for AoOs). Why do you need to Teleport rather than just Tumbling in?

Horzon Walker's Planar Terrain Mastery Alternative

You could do that, though the need for a high Knowledge skill means you'll need to deviate from your martial inclinations... to say nothing of the power point requirement. That's going to eat a feat, and you need 3 other feats to get into Elocator. The major benefit of War Mind is the full BAB...

Horzon Walker's Planar Terrain Mastery Alternative

If you're open to having a little spellcasting, consider the Elocator psionic prestige class. You need 1 manifester level to get in, and it gives 2/3 manifesting progression, so if you dump it at level 6 (when you get free access to teleport as a level 3 power) you'll only have 5 manifester...

    D&D 3.x Why be a 3.5 monk?

If you were to say that it interferes with getting healing from someone else in the heat of combat, you'll be saying something much more accurate. It's usually a lot better to just take some Cleric levels and heal yourself. (Of course, it's usually a lot better to take mostly Cleric levels and...

    That's a bit deceptive. Cheers, -- N

    D&D 3.x Why be a 3.5 monk?

Diamond Soul is neat if you constantly face low-level spellcasters. It's nearly useless if you usually face spellcasters higher level than you. Guess which kind D&D favors? Your saves & other class abilities protect you against most equal-level or lower spellcasters, and once you risk seeing...

    Ah! What Edition to use?

If the people involved can only be described with the words "Sorceress", "Artificer" and "Expert", then your system is chosen for you: you must use 3.x, since no other system has Sorcerer, Artificer and Expert. In other words, if you want the mechanical implications of tactical flexibility vs...

4e = the Titanic? and other insanity or irony

I'm going to ignore the parts of your post that make sense -- which is most of it -- because I can't inflate my ego by mocking them. "Idyl" speculation sounds far too peaceful. How about some idol speculation! Now there's a typo I can blaspheme to. Cheers, -- N
