    Magic item rarity revision forthcoming?

Mmmm. I disagree about both of your points. I suspect that many players would indeed drop that "interesting" +2 sword for a boring +3 sword. Also, I believe that items can be made which are mechanically interesting, where the item's mechanics have an impact on the type of decisions the...

    Magic item rarity revision forthcoming?

A more cynical or paranoid poster might infer that there is designed to be a social stigma attached to NOT moving to Essentials. Cheers, -- N

    The Groundhog Campaign

I've always wanted to make a Groundhog Day adventure with some Cthulhu thrown in. Something like: - PCs are the failsafe for a military experiment, so they're highly trained experts drawn from a variety of fields (i.e. an excuse to work together). - The military experiment is an insane foray...

Have you ever ripped off an idea & passed it off as your own?

I saw an example of it once. One of the guys wanted to run a Star Wars KotOR era game, so I bought KotOR to get a feel for the era, and it turns out he was ripping off the game's plot directly, even keeping the gang's names. That game didn't last very long. Cheers, -- N

Have you ever ripped off an idea & passed it off as your own?

In 3.5e you got a free 5 ft. note every round. In 4e they changed the 5 ft. notes to squares, and the squares to circles, so the notes are all semibreves. "I prefer semiboxers", -- N

Have you ever ripped off an idea & passed it off as your own?

Um. Well. I steal as much as possible and use it as thoroughly as I can get away with, because theft is property and bad accents need to be repeated. But I don't really get the "as if it was your own idea" angle. We don't do granular intellectual property accounting after a session -- e.g. we'd...

Wow, do I hate rolling for stats!

You have a good chance if you know what the rolls were, as all players and DMs tend to do. Well, perhaps we play differently. In my experience, the player does not simply announce "I HIT". Rather, we see what he rolled, he announces his total, and then the GM tells him if he hits or not. That's...

Wow, do I hate rolling for stats!

They certainly do work -- for the casino. The difference between the stats of two PCs is the difference between two different zero-sum combat games. The PC with lower stats gets hit more often (lower defenses), has fewer HP, and his fight takes longer to win because he hits less often and deals...

Doesn't much matter so long as it's quick. Conflict detected (process must be quick). Conflict detected (long backstory). Conflict detected (process must be quick). Cheers, -- N

Feats for spell casters in lvl 2 one-off game

Back in 2004, I made a whole thread about that very topic. Let's not pollute this nice thread with an unrelated discussion. Cheers, -- N

Wow, do I hate rolling for stats!

It never happens that way. The guy who runs the (slightly) rigged odds game is the casino, and it always has more cash than you. They do benefit from "gambler's ruin" -- but even if you don't run out of cash, they still tend to win. Yep yep. I pointed out the one 3.x class which works well...

Wow, do I hate rolling for stats!

Alright, how about this: we'll flip a coin. Heads, you give me $1.00; tails, I give you $0.95. We'll flip the coin a thousand times. Would you agree to this set-up? It's not a rip-off because I only have a theoretical edge, right? The coin could come up tails a thousand times in a row! "d02...

Wow, do I hate rolling for stats!

If I am 5% better than you, then I am better than you. You don't have to see the effect for it to be real. You can pretend that we're earning the same salary (even if mine is 5% higher than yours), but there's a numerical reality, and the difference isn't some subtle thing hidden in a pile of...

Feats for spell casters in lvl 2 one-off game

Like I said, it was an attempt to make early levels more survivable. All playable races got 6-10 bonus HP, and the half-orc did indeed get more than the human or dwarf. Cheers, -- N

Wow, do I hate rolling for stats!

 I don't even know where to begin. Every +1 is significant. (That's why magic swords are so expensive.) Maybe you can explain what you mean by "the significant value for the d20". :erm:, -- N

Feats for spell casters in lvl 2 one-off game

The power level and fragility of 1st and 2nd level PCs are exactly why I always started my 3.x games at 3rd level, and reduced HP variance by granting at least half your HD each level, and also gave the PCs bonus racial HP. IMHO 3rd level is where 3.x becomes an interesting game. Cheers, -- N

Rolling stats: "Remember, kids! Rolling high the first time is the same as rolling higher every single time in the future!" Make him a Tiefling Warlock instead. (Warlocks don't need any stats, and can be quite good socially even with just a +2 Charisma bonus.) "Some people were born to...
