Help: Gap between AC and defenses seems too large.

As I said earlier -- nope. Well, not except for some wierd gap cases. There's Unarmed Agility. But that just lets cloth-armor users get nearly the AC of leather armor users without having to switch to leather -- something they could do with a feat. There's Hide Armor Expertise, but it's...

Help: Gap between AC and defenses seems too large.

Better; Barbarians get +1 AC per Tier! (and +1 ref per Tier). It's to give them decent AC even though they're light armor users who don't have Dex secondary -- but it does mean that Whirling Barbarians have ludicrous AC. Your guy can choose to bump AC or bump his riders (unless he's Whirling...

    Are Superior Weapons "worth it"?

Of course, probably the best answer to "the guidebook is wrong and does't give useful advice" is to either argue it in the forums or make your own guidebook.

Help: Gap between AC and defenses seems too large.

@(Psi)SeveredHead: Goliath barbarian: 19 Str, so lets assume 16/15/15 pre-racial (25 points). That gives 19/16/17 assuming a Str/Wis goliath. +3 for level/intrinisc, +1 to will for Goliath, +2 to fort and +1 to AC/Ref for barbarian . so Fort: 19,Ref 17, Will 17. Ok, so he didn't even max...

    Powerplayers

@RLBURNSIDE Anger leads to the dark side, man. More seriously, I think you reserve your anger for the wrong things. A GM has the total right to tell players what classes they can play and require unoptimized arrays--but I'll admit doing so for one player but not another is beyond the pale (as...

    Psionics/summoning question

usually better off starting new threads to resing older ones. But...I know this one! Shaped Conciousness is a Movable Conjuration, and there are special rules for that. Specifically: Movable Conjurations: If the power used to create a conjuration allows it to be moved, it’s a movable...

    Are Superior Weapons "worth it"?

Actually, this is totally untrue. An LFR DM is empowered to do most sensible things (explicitly including modding the difficulty level up or down) in order to keep the game fun.

    Heroes of Virtue article

The Chevalier's pretty fun -- though I don't like the static power bonus at level 10, if only because players will forget it's a power bonus and try to stack it (a problem with power bonuses, particularly on things that aren't powers). The Guardian e1 is hella strong; depending on...

    Rogue|Warlock

Danny: that would work -- at least if your GM doesn't like the hybrid+multiclass + Dragon feat I mention above (hidden > combat advantage). OP: Go to; the hexblade's a fine class, and easier to get right than any hybrid.

    Are Superior Weapons "worth it"?

@Hershel -- team bonuses are force multipliers; damage bonuses are additive. But damage bonuses with big numbers on them (which certainly includes Superior weapons) are the easiest way to get something to multiply. A ranger armed with war axes is going to be making 4-6 attacks a round (more in...

    Rogue|Warlock

Ok -- we've got a lot of those, really. Shadow Assassin, Hexblade, Warlock with Eldritch Strike, etc. What kind of manuver/spell would you like to be able to do? A warlock with eldritch strike is going to be making basic attacks an OAs (and at low levels, charges) with a weapon, but her big...

    Mearls' "Stop, Thief!" Article

Pinback: Indeed. Like I said in another thread a while back, +X weapons (or armor, or, now, neck) are a sacred cow.

    Shield spec. & imp defences

What UL said. Actually, making it +1 AC, +2/3/4 reflex as a feat bonus would work too; you'd be choosing this vs superior reflex, with different prereqs. The New Standard for feat bonuses to reflex (and attack) is that they're scaling bonuses.

    Rogue|Warlock

I suppose the fun thing there (mechanically) would be Rogue|Warlock (multiclass assassin). Dex/Cha, and don't worry about the riders you won't be getting. Take Cunning Sneak (Hybrid), and the Cursed Shadow feat from Dragon 385. Congrats, you can now make a hide check whenever you move 3...

Why are thrown weapons so underwhelming?

1.5 damage? 1d6 is 3.5 damage. 1d12 is 6.5 damage. Try 3 damage, not 1.5. Per W. I think the real enemy of thrown weapons is the unexplained unwillingness to provide superior versions of most of them. "it's off-hand and thrown" is perfectly reasonably worth -1 die category. Maybe even...

    Shield spec. & imp defences

Quite. Given the current economy, I'd proabably make it "your shield bonus increases by 1" to make it work with resilient focus.

    Royal Rumble: Multiclass vs. Hybrid!

I'd be tempted to ban hybrids just beause, as people say, it's hard to get it right. But really, neither are intrinisically a problem. There are some strong combinations available; Swordmage|Wizard is often cited, or Paladin|Warlock (which is not only strong in terms of being able to fulfil...

    Line of sight rule?

Line of sight isn't an issue, here, as you don't need line of sight for a burst 1. Neither is total concealment. But line of effect is; the abilty doesn't say the wall blocks LoE, but as a solid obstacle, it should. I'm fine with ruling that throwing a grenade-like weapon over the wall will...

    Bigby's Icy Grasp squeeze?

Effect: You conjure a 5-foot-tall hand of ice in an unoccupied square within range, and the hand attacks. As a move action, you can move the hand up to 6 squares. It's not a very well templated power, but it does do what it says on the can. Also, re moving and grabbed targets: If you move...
