Help me build an 11th level ranger (please)

Mercurious: nope. But the +1/tier damage -does- stack with Weapon Focus (Light Blades). But you're basically taking it, or not, as a +2 damage feat, not a +1/tier to hit feat.

Flail, Holy Symbol, Ki Focus, Totem expertise - what should they do?

While the CA thing is mediocre (although it seems likely to keep leaders alive when dealing with rogue-like monsters, and prevent quite a bit of damage from those critters), I'm glad, in retrospect, that they didn't go with the above. Vampires can wield Holy Symbols. So with the above...

The vampire starts with just 2 healing surges

The Executioner was always a preview, Solvarn. Re vampire: it's a bit odd, otoh, there is a history of heroic vampires, from Elric to Blade.

A Couple of Questions from a Beginner

#1: If you have class features that require using an implement of a type, it can be worth using a non-magical implement of that type. For instance, the PHI/Arcane Power Wizard can only use his Implement Mastery when wielding an implement of the appropriate type. Also, if you take a Superior...

Help me build an 11th level ranger (please)

Actually, it isn't, really. The classic bow ranger is really boring; You run away, twin strike, twin strike, twin strike some more, and throw out the occasional interrupt. Meanwhile, it's nice if the rest of your party is doing the same thing, or can get in the monster's face, because you...

Help me build an 11th level ranger (please)

Aegeri indeed. The only real problem with Battlefield Archer is that you have to be an Archer ranger to take it (the ranger build that gives you the least on its own). Ironically, this means that the premier Archer Ranger build is the Point Blank Archer who shoots stuff from up close and...

What does the Artificer, Seeker and Runepriest need?

I don't think Artificers as Mages would work -- Leaders are defined through their class features, but controllers are defined through their powers. So an Artificer Mage would -- unless they were unable to use wizard powers (in which case, what's the point?) be able to hit like a controller by...

Help me build an 11th level ranger (please)

Actually, the options are: Great at bow and 2xSword (but short on other options): Scout Great at one weapon but mediocre at the other (DEX/WIS/str or STR/WIS/dex build) Good at both weapons, but bad riders (sacrificing Wisdom--the trad ranger secondary--for Dex) Give up 2xSword for a...

Second-Guessing Myself: Allow Teleporting While Falling?

I would totally have allowed it, as it's awesome. But you were entirely within your rights to disallow it (or to require a roll).

Challenging the player rather than the character

Quickleaf My handle is pronounced "nemay" with an optional dipthonged m on front -- exactly as the "mn" is pronounced in "mnemonic".

    Class Compendium: The Warlord (Marshal)

A couple of things: 1. You can't really look at ranger at will damage without counting Quarry. He's at least hitting for 1d10+d6+1, and that's if he hasn't taken any feats to buff damage. What level is this? You presumably have a magic item (or you're going to have problems rethrowing that...

Help me build an 11th level ranger (please)

I think there's actually an interesting question as to whether it's better to build a melee/ranged ranger as a scout (who can just be built using dex for both dual wielding and ranged combat) or by building a Str/Dex ranger. A dex/wis scout can dual wield and shoot out of the box (but...

Challenging the player rather than the character

Ql: Exactly what I meant to say. Obviously, all non-trivial rpg play challenges the player, not just the character. If it doesn't, the player might as well not be playing at all; if your decisions don't matter, frankly, who cares? (ok, in a very story+ game you might be challenged to...

What does the Artificer, Seeker and Runepriest need?

Artificers pretty much require more choices to go along with their gold choices (and encounter powers that beat Magic Weapon on some levels). Let's face it; there's rarely any reason for an artificer to throw anything other than Magic Weapon in most rounds, and MW is good enough that it's hard...

    D&D 5E (2014) So 5th edition is coming soon

Er, say what? Healing--sure, 4e defined healing such that everyone got to play; quite deliberately. And temp hp are the same category, except that they can make even more sense for martial powers. But there is -one- purely martial power that lets someone teleport -- Mountebank's Flight, a...

    "Worse than death"

The Monster: very nicely stated (grump: You must spread some xp around before giving it to the monster again)! Yes, it's important to play with the plot hooks players give, but overdo it and you're punishing them for leaving themselves vulnerable, and then nobody has any fun.

    Dungeon: Mahin'drazal article is up

On reflection, I do have some problems with it as an article. As presented, I could totally see a GM using it as an excuse to kill off the entire party as a death, no saving throw. If the PCs don't get Inisght rolls (not mentioned in the article) or blow them and the players let their...

    Dungeon: Mahin'drazal article is up

Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (The Mahin'drazal) Wow. Totally gross, and entirely possible for (particularly inexperienced) GMs to end up with a TPK (particularly as the obvious way to introduce the encounter is at the end of a long day). OTOH, I find myself...

    When Holding A Two-handed Weapon

In the interest of correctness, you're only down 2 AC when wielding your bastard sword. Two-hand wielding Swordmages don't lose -all- their warding, just 2 points of it! (i.e., the amount they'd gain from wielding a large shield if they were a heavy armor class).
