    When Holding A Two-handed Weapon

golem: Actually, that -is- the rules. Carying an object takes one hand, wielding a two handed weapon takes 2.

    How to stop a Warden?

FWIW, painting the warden's behavior in the best light I can (and bearing in mind that that doesn't hit him taking credit for shared kills), I have to wonder if he's trying to be more "defendery" as a reaction to your claims here that (effectively) he was a glory hound who didn't care about...

    How to stop a Warden?

Miio: ok, that puts another spin on it. It sounds like it's become a player problem. I'd talk with the players in question. The player may just be roleplaying--or he may be being a jerk, but either way you need to know which way it's going. For that matter, it sounds like this thread is...

    How to stop a Warden?

Minions that explode can be a lot of fun, but Thatwackyned's post crossed the "grudge monster" line for me (in a different way than the Giant Frogs comment). Partially, that's because it's not a good enough answer to the actual problem to be worth making up monsters (if he'd suggested specific...

    How to stop a Warden?

sigfile: it depends, really. I mean, an Avenger will (unless she's a martyr, anyway) often have ludcirous defenses and hp for her role and not end up absorbing that many attacks. Or an optimal twin striking ranger will have conditional encounter powers (because marginal bump on Twin Strike =...

    How to stop a Warden?

Sheesh. What is it with threads like this and people suggesting grudge monsters? Wake up; they're -never- a good idea! Re threatening the warden--It sounds a lot like the player is playing his warden as a 3.5 fighter -- good at striking, hard to hurt; very mano a mano. Why not play into...

    Design & Development - Necromancy & Nethermancy

Re creep: it happens. I'd be much more concerned about it if there were existing conversation on this thread to disrupt. Mind, a mod splitting the last few pages off would be useful. I think the idea is that if you're using training/boons exclusively, you are using inherent bonuses, UL...

    Implement confusion, expertise and focus

You're an Assassin. Wait 3 weeks and take Ki Focus Expertise. No idea on how/if that will handle the damage problem, but I wouldn't be all that surprised.

Essentials has me hyped about D&D again

Glad you're having fun, but unless you're saying "only E martial classes", I don't see a point to Essentials-only (except, I guess, for "only material for which I have the book" control, which I don't agree with, but is pretty common). After all, an E-cleric is just as complicated in play as a...

    Design & Development - Necromancy & Nethermancy

Also, the big damage boosts on crits are, frankly, fun. Basically, the least fun part of magic items is managing them (either DM side or player side) in order to "keep up".

    How to stop a Warden?

"You must spread some experience points around before giving them to eriktheguy again." Yes, very much so; the best way to deal with ooc problems in a game is to deal with them, as adults, ooc. If a player wants to play a viable but non-standard role (like Defender-as-striker; something doable...

    Design & Development - Necromancy & Nethermancy

Actually, I think inherent bonuses would be fantastic as a default rule. Why should characters have such a great percentage of their effectiveness bound up in their gear? To a large extent, the +1-+5 (now +6) weapon is a D&D sacred cow.

Theme parties. Forked Thread: Challenge: Balanced Stealthy Party

Hmm. What about Robin Hood's Band? Robin: Elven DEX/wis Ranger (If you want quarterstff/bow, make him a scout, with Staff Fighting, otherwise Twin Strike/Fading Strike with a melee weapon). Tuck: Half Elven Wis/cha cleric (diletante: Twin Strike, adept diletante) Will Scarlet: Weapon/implement...

    Critique my D&D tool

Finally got a chance to try this tool (as it doesn't work under Mono, more's the pity). Pretty neat! One thing: Any chance the die roller can handle hetrogenous dice? As a player, probably the most game stopping moment for me (at paragon levels) is a crit, as I go from "I hit for X" to "I...

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

With only 2 feats? How's that work? At 4th level, sure. Mud: Sure, if the GM's running L+3+ encounters consistently, that's a big problem (though the easiest way to handle it is to just increase the size of the party, that way the GM doesn't need to do extra work). But a pacifist cleric just...

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

Ok, I think there are a few things here: First, yeah, I think we've adressed the question of whether it's "I'm playing a caster" that's the problem; it isn't, but the makeup of the group (somewhat coupled with how your GM is designing/picking encounters; clearly you're not abusing your spousal...

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

Why would you do a single target wizard build? That's crazy talk. The primary advantage wizards have is at-will area attacks (and in optimization, one of the primary advantages they have is being the only class who can have a burst 2 or blast 4 at will). Mixing up a single target spell with a...

    Gender Inequality Issue...

Yes, definitely talk it over with players beforehand. It's not really a matter of maturity here; sometimes (particularly if the players -are- the minority you're hitting) the reaction is "I deal with this #*@$( in real life; I want to do something different in a game," and you -don't- want to...

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

Actually, you can throw all your resources into the pot and get a +9 hit bonus as a monk (+5 dex, +1 level, +1 implement, +1 Accurate implement, +1 Staff Expertise). But then, you can do the same thing as a cleric, too -- +5 wis, +1 level, +1 symbol, Proficiency (Accurate Holy Symbol -- or...

    HOS Paragon Paths up

Er....didn't clerics in PH1 have a "must be the same alignment as your deity"? Since deity selection has a mechanical impact, that means that alignment has always had a mechanical impact in 4e. (edit: admitedly, clerics, at least, can be unaligned and serve any god. But still).
