If your group didn't like 4e...

Our 3.5 games keep going in 3.5. New campaigns are in Pathfinder RPG.

    GREYHAWK 3E to 4E: Do I need a world-shaking event?

In my view, campaign settings need big world-changing events to mark edition switches like Mona Lisa needs an extra layer of paint.

4E D&D - Are you playing already (or ever)?

Playtested it. Got the PHB. Not an experience I care to repeat. I'm getting a distinct impression I am not in the target audience for this game.

Pathfinder 1E Tell me about the Pathfinder setting

It's large enough, I'd say. The campaign setting book details two continents roughly the size of Europe. All the regular D&D races. No major new races, though there is stuff like sentient flying apes in the jungles of the Mwangi Expanse, and so forth. If you play 3.5, classes aren't different...

PLANESCAPE Novels: Are they any good?

Yeah, I actually googled up the link before clicking on the thread title. I can heartily recommend Fire and Dust. The only other Planescape novel I've read is Torment, and I agree with the general opinion here. Forget the novel. Play the game instead.

Dungeons & Dragons Editions: Where Do You Stand?

Pathfinder RPG is my game, now. I'll also gladly play 1E, OD&D and 3E. 4th and 2nd I refuse to play again.

August RPG Book Club: Classic Monsters Revisted

I think this is book is awesome. I don't think any of the entries are weak, though the hobgoblin one could use a bit of tuning. Trolls cutting open their own stomachs and divining from their entrails is just great. I also like how they're moving away from the cutesy kobold we've been...

    <- Sucker

Specifically, two of the poster maps are recycled from the Fantastic Locations packs Dragondown Grotto (Dragondown Grotto/Forest Cliff Lair) and Fields of Ruin (King’s Road/Dungeon of Blood). Both packs still have one two-sided poster map that's not included in KotS and KotS has one brand new...

KotS also recycled a map from Fields of Ruin.

Pathfinder 1E Rate Paizo as a Company!

I voted "5", mostly because I can still view them and their work critically. Not that there's really a lot to criticise. I'm not too keen on the paper they used on the Rise of the Runelords Map Folio, there's been the occasional editing error, and let's face it, their forums are a mess...

    Rate WotC as a company

I put down 1. They get that one point because even after releasing subpar product, treating editing as something that happens to other companies, offending and insulting me with their marketing and condescending tone of the 4E previews, killing off a pair of my favourite magazines, repeatedly...

Sunless Citidel vs. Keep on the Shadowfell

I mean stuff like the snake boss in ZF autokilling everyone except the tank if they're too close. Kalarel in KotS has a conditional, immediate teleportation effect that's not even actually included in his stats, just the encounter description. I understand Arugal does something similar.

Sunless Citidel vs. Keep on the Shadowfell

Admittedly, though there was more of a point to that one. A generic unpopular WoW dungeon. It has arbitrary elements to it that remind me of certain Zul'Farrak bosses, for instance, or Arugal in Shadowfang Keep. (From what I've read, at least. Popularity may vary, but it is a fact that I've...

Sunless Citidel vs. Keep on the Shadowfell

Sunless Citadel was good. It had variety in its encounters, and an interesting dungeon. It also gave us Meepo, who grew more or less spontaneously to be one of the signature NPCs of the new edition (and unfortunately started the Drizzt syndrome for kobolds, but in my opinion most of the blame...

    Planescape Faction Affiliations

Ah, most nifty. I'll be going over these when I have the time (which may be around 2010, but let's hope earlier). You seem to have used JustKim's affiliations as a base for these. I did the same for my campaign. You might want to add an acknowledgement to that effect. Also, why is there a...

    Forked Thread: Changeover poll

I switched to 3.0 right when it was released. In fact, I ended my AD&D campaign before release to run my group through the orange Dungeons & Dragons Adventure box, with the little cardboard counters and premade characters and the poster map of a dungeon. Likewise, I made the switch to 3.5...

    Who's Ashardalon?

Ashardalon is a legendary great red wyrm that made his first appearance in the backstory to WotC's first 3E adventure module, The Sunless Citadel. He then popped up here and there during the adventure path until coming to face the party himself in Bastion of Broken Souls, where he was attempting...

DDM - Collect, play, or what?

I used to buy craploads of them for both RPGs and the miniatures game. Then, for some reason, starting with Desert of Desolation, the game balance went down the drain, and the 2.0 ruleset for the miniatures game managed to kill the tactical depth of the game. This coincided with bad miniature...

    RPG Book Club July

Picked up the book yesterday. Looks good thus far, though I haven't had time to read it in depth yet. I like the mix of pirates and Cthulhu mythos. I've got the original Freeport trilogy lying around somewhere in pdf as a result of some promotion I can't remember anymore, and now I want to take...
