    What the locals know

More just a local urban legend, I guess, but every teen "knew" this where I came from... Somewhere in the Cincinnati area is a town made up entirely of little people, complete with houses that are appropriately scaled to the residents. Although everyone allegedly knew someone who had been...

    AD&D Kobold picture

Yeah, but remember that Kurtulmak was drawn by Otus, who makes everything he draws both crazy and awesome.

    "Bulk" rules are needed

And lo, 1e shall lead them! That kind of chump is called a "hireling". Need some temp help to carry your equipment? Get a hireling! Need someone to hold the lantern so you can see where you're swinging that sword? Get a hireling! Need someone to watch the horses while you head into the tomb? Yep...

    "Bulk" rules are needed

 Do you know how long an arrow is? I don't see how you could cram ONE quiver filled with arrows into a pack, let alone four or five.

[Hockey] NHL Suspends Avery Indefinitely for Comments, Pending Hearing

Classless yet awesome! Anyone who works the phrase "sloppy seconds" into an interview is okay in my book. :D

Can human arcane spellcasters wear armour?

Man, how many threads do you need to have on this subject?

    Problem player in my group

Friendship shouldn't excuse childish sulky dickery in a grown man. If he's ruining everyone else's fun with totally effing ridiculous behavior that should embarrass a 10-year-old, then he's a pretty sucky friend who obviously puts his right to bitch above his so-called friends' enjoyment of the...

Wizards, Armour and the Collective Consciousness

Not positive, but I think Morgan wears armor in the Deryni books, along with some of the "bad guy" Deryni.

    Problem player in my group

Who cares? It sounds like he's putting a damper on the game for the rest of the group. If he's only happy by being a dick, then maybe he should be shooed out of the group and find some other group that enjoys having a jerk at the table.

Help me avoid slaughtering my party

I agree with Ironfang - let 'em suffer the consequences of their actions, even if that consequence is death. Next time around, they'll play more tightly, and consider the risks before they just go dashing off into danger. Nothing hones a group of players into a lean, mean, adventuring machine...

    Monte Cook reviews Kobold Quarterly

Ha - I quite liked the Mona years of Dragon, and I didn't even really like 3e! There was plenty of quality stuff during that time to snag and retrofit to other editions that I did enjoy. Nice job, sir!

    Sell me a dice pouch!

If you intend to do this, be sure to only use blunt weapons when you kill the prospective skin donor. Otherwise, you'll always be losing your dice.

Give me Experience! When I attain GODHOOD I promise everyone UNLIMITED WISHES

Oh, well yeah - obviously most people here can't be trusted with that power. But me? Oh, I would use it wisely and responsibly, and only smite those who truly deserved it. Or who pissed me off. Or had user names I disliked. Or who happened to fall into my line of sight when I'm in a bad mood. I...

    Guide to Adventure Writing

Oh, ferchrissake. The essay is obviously just one man's opinions on the "right" way to play/write/whatever. If you actually resent what he wrote because you disagree with him, then...well, that's just pretty damn ridiculous. Toughen up, man.

    Guide to Adventure Writing

Thanks for the great post, Jim! I'm running a 1e game, and it's pretty much all adventures of my own making - some good stuff here to keep in mind when I'm writing up the next adventure.

    That Magic Feeling

The Vancian system is very important to what I think of as D&D - it's the way the game started out, and that particular aspect of resource management is a big part of the fun and feel to me. 4e (and to a slightly lesser extent, 3e) went way too far in many changes, the magic system included...

    My growing miniature addiction/collection

Well, Citadel was just the name of the minis branch of Games Workshop back in the day - I don't know if they use the Citadel name at all anymore, but GW is most definitely still in business, and still cranking out minis like gangbusters, albeit at ridiculously expensive prices.

    Adventure Modules featuring Metagaming

"The roper hands you a tape measure, pencil, and a piece of scrap paper and demands that you tell him the area of the circular chamber - or else he'll devour you!" "Again?! Guys, I knew we should've passed on the Tomb of Mathematics!"
