Sevenfold Veil - more info on warding?

So the Sevenfold Veil class in Complete Arcane has this warding ability... except that it gives very little information about its limitations. For example, how often may they do it? it doesn't seem to say, implying it's at will. Great, this guy can throw up something similar to a prismatic...

    Any viable halfling fighter builds?

The key to being a small fighter-type is to make sure you get 14 strength. Don't try to go weapon finesse with huge dex and minimal strength, it just doesn't work. you can hit well, but no one cares because you can't actually do any damage. Unless you tweak out the spiked chain cheese, you...

Bard Creation Guide? (Or should I create something else?)

Here's my suggestion - try to get 14 strength. If you don't have decent strength, you're wasting yourself in combat. DEFINITELY do not give yourself 10 strength. You get the same BAB as a cleric... use it! You can choose a martial weapon to be proficient with, too. here's what I'd do...

    Most interesting recent rules?

So I've been out of D&D for the holiday season, started a new job and all that. I just ordered the latest 4 D&D splat books - Races of the Wild, Races of Destiny, Complete Arcane, and Complete Adventurer. So here's my question - with all this new stuff to read, whre should I start? I've taken...

renowned status of high level characters??

I think it depends a lot on his role in the community. If he does a lot for the community, he'll be well known. If he just has Sunday mass (or the equivalent) then he'll be known to his congregation only. Building a temple is not automatically newsworthy... think of the last big building you...

    Uncanny Dodge vs Feint conundrum...

The problem is that if uncanny dodge works against feint, it has to work while you're rock climbing, too (and during any other activity where you're physically restricted from using your dex bonus but not immobile). I believe the intention of the ability was to only affect flat footedness and...

    Indestructible Weapon

Absolutes in D&D are a bad idea. They're generally way more open to abuse than "almost absolute". I like Scion's idea of having an enchantment that just adds hitpoints, hardness, etc. That way, for the most part, the item will be immune to damage, but if it gets hit by something really big...

    Specificicity of the Search skill?

Whenever I leave the house, work, my car, a store... I always check my pockets for my keys, my wallet, and my cellphone. Twice now, I've been walking around, check my pockets, and realize with a start that my cellphone isn't in my pocket. Sometimes I'll even look around for it for a little...

Real World Experience with XPH Psions?

Nail, given the option of getting all those feats for free and using them for free, but then being required to use heighten to get scaling benefits... I would honestly choose not to get those benefits and instead get automatic scaling. But that's not why we're here. I just wanted to see what...

Real World Experience with XPH Psions?

Try telling a player with a 9th level wizard that in order to get 9d6 out of his fireball, that he has to heighten it to 5th level, otherwise it'll only do 5d6.... think he'll be happy? I thought not. Given that heighten is a metamagic feat I've *never* seen used... I think that mandatory...

    Communicating Invisibility Pinpoint

I see absolutely no problem with someone being able to say "he's (in this square) right in front of me". As long as there is an easily communicated spot, it's no problem. If he's 35' north and 15' west of that tree.... then you're going to have difficulty communicating it. -The Souljourner

Real World Experience with XPH Psions?

It's really just overchannel that makes the DCs higher, right? I mean, assuming +1 DC per 2 PP, you start off with the same DC as a spellcaster. So, the problem must be overchannel. Sounds like Psions are pretty well regarded, with no real balance problems. Now all I have to do is figure out...

Real World Experience with XPH Psions?

Scion, thanks for the insight. I guess I never thought about using energy missile to target held objects. I can definitely see how that could be a problem. Yes, I'm talking about being a player. The questions are still pertinent, however. I don't have many details about the campaign, but I...

Real World Experience with XPH Psions?

Anyone here have real world experience with Psions, post XPH? I'm thinking of running one in an upcoming campaign, but wanted to hear what people thought of them. Please assume that all powers are house ruled to what they reasonably should be, i.e. +1 DC per 2 PP, dispel psionics increases the...

    (MM3) Plague Bush Question

It's so sad, but the first thing I thought of when I saw Bush in the title was "What the heck is someone doing asking a politics question in the rules forum!?" Damn politics are brainwashing me. -The Souljourner

    D&D 3.x Spell/Rule Changes from 3.0 to 3.5 -- How did we survive 3.0?

Just to preface... I figured there was probably some things I had forgotten, but I figured that if I had forgotten them, then they must not be that bad. ...And has a save and only hits 4 hitdice (instead of 2d4). However, since it was mass instakill in 3.0, I don't necessarily think it's worse...

D&D 3.x Complaining about 3.5 weapon size rules

Please don't use real world logic when it comes to what weapons are realistic. In a game with gnome hook hammers and dire flails, you really can't justify anything by saying "in the real world, x weapons are most popular". Halflings fight just like anyone else. They're not small, everyone...

D&D 3.x My DM wants to nerf 3.5 Psionics, help me convince him otherwise :)

Maybe psionics just isn't the right choice for this campaign. I'd highly recommend a ranger or a bard for a low magic game with an amazing DM. Both have a huge selection of interesting abilities for both in and out of combat, can be really fun to roleplay, and don't really rely on magic items...

    D&D 3.x Spell/Rule Changes from 3.0 to 3.5 -- How did we survive 3.0?

These are a few of my favorite things The Ranger!!!! (and I don't use multiple exclamations lightly) The Bard!!!! (see the ranger) The Monk The Fighter (it's better but not super) The Paladin (see fighter) Square Facing XPH Goodbye Splatbooks Spell Clarifying and Fixing Damage Reduction! The...

D&D 3.x My DM wants to nerf 3.5 Psionics, help me convince him otherwise :)

Tell him he should let you try it out as written in the books, and if it turns out to be too powerful in game, then you can change things down the line. There's really no better way to test if something is broken than to actually play with it. When the Mystic Theurge came out, everyone said...
