MIC- Did the price of mithral change? Is mithral armor too cheap?

That's completely the opposite of the true utility. Mithral makes heavy armors count as lighter, that's a huge benefit. Making Heavy armor count as medium means barbarians can wear it and not lose their +10' movement. Making medium armor count as light means it doesn't reduce normal people's...

    Surprised and Flat-footed

In 3.5 you are flat footed until you act, which generally happens on your initiative during the first non-surprise round (assuming you were surprised). I don't see any reason to house rule it... those who were surprised.... are surprised, and don't get to be reactive until their initiative says...

    Dodge and Mobility alternatives

Ok ok Mistwell, no fair using logic! ;) I guess my problem with dodge and mobility is that I don't really think of my full plate and shield guy as one of those "mobile fighters" that would take mobility-related feats. The problem is that there just aren't that many good defensive feats out...

    Low level Crusader Feat selection

Yeah, I remember thinking that when I was delving into maneuver and stance choices and noticing that they don't really line up very well, but that taking levels of other classes can actually make your choices *better*.

    Nimblewright Swiftblade

Really, the thread subject says it all. I was surfing around and was somehow reminded of the Nimblewright... I totally forgot about that thing! It's a 3e MMII intelligent construct that wields dual rapiers and can cast haste and disguise self at will (and some other jazz). Combine that with...

    Low level Crusader Feat selection

Hmm.... you make a good point, Blarg. I haven't actually played a crusader yet, so I am in the "must make full attack" mindset... nevermind that we're starting at 1st level and I won't get a second attack for 5 more levels anyway. Also, my DM suggested improving dodge to +2 AC vs. one...

    Low level Crusader Feat selection

Bah, Luke, I don't believe in animated shields. I think they're just too cheesy to be used... sure, here's a free +7 ac for no good reason. I think not. It does sound like I'll be abandoning agile shield fighter.... too bad. I like the idea, but I can't really support the feat requirements...

    Low level Crusader Feat selection

I think it's great (if only it had been combined with improved shield bash, since that feat is worthless on its own). The rest of the two weapon fighting chain is just a bunch of feats that get worse and worse and more and more difficult to qualify for. Screw that. One free attack with your...

    Dodge and Mobility alternatives

I have a character I want to get Elusive Target, but dodge and mobility aren't the greatest of feats. I know there was recently a thread on dodge alternatives, so if anyone has a link to that, it would be much appreciated. Also, are there alternatives to mobility in the same vein of "you can...

    Low level Crusader Feat selection

Yes. Agile shield fighter specifically replaces whatever penalties you have for fighting with two weapons with a flat -2 to hit with all attacks. That means you don't have to have a light weapon in your offhand (you can use a large shield). Plus, it has no dex requirement, which is nice for...

    Low level Crusader Feat selection

Great response blarg. I forgot about Elusive Target. I do love that tactical feat and haven't ever gotten a chance to use it. I had been thinking (briefly) about dodge and mobility, but wasn't sure they were strong enough to take. It's essentially two dump feats so I can get Elusive...

Immediate Actions *can't* be used when flat-footed?

Was wondering about that myself... what are these various legal options? Sounds like a bunch of house rules (not that there's anything wrong with that) [Edit] Bah, asked and answered before my post. That doesn't really change the fact that there are some distinctly funky rules about...

Immediate Actions *can't* be used when flat-footed?

Well, sorta. The flat footed rules were created before immediate actions existed, and it's obvious an interpretation such as "any action you take breaks flatfootedness" is obviously not in the spirit of the rules, which is why I suggested a revision of the flat footed rules to clarify. -Nate

    Low level Crusader Feat selection

I am starting a level 1 human crusader with a single flaw (yes, it's shaky). That's three feats I get to take. I want to be a sword and board, defensive style guy, protecting the other players in the party, etc. Extra granted maneuver seems like a must... it adds 50% more options in the...

Immediate Actions *can't* be used when flat-footed?

Well, part of this could be fixed by just rewording how you lose flat-footedness to something akin to "When a combat starts, you are flat footed until the beginning of your first turn. If you are surprised, you instead stay flat footed until your first turn after the surprise round." That way...

    Introducing Immediate and Swift actions?

Pretty much immediate and swift actions are just defining things that are already in the game but had no strict definition. They just allow you to use the "one quickened spell per round" mechanic on whatever you want, plus allow you to do things even when it's not your turn (like cast feather...

    A question about Weapon Pluses

the bonus equivalents are *only* for price purposes. they have no effect on the in-game function of a weapon

    Tell me about the Swordsage

The swordsage is fine. He's less powerful than a cleric or druid. The maneuver refresh is not a big deal, because he's not throwing around fireballs. Think of it more like feats he can only use once per combat. It's not like he's casting haste on the party or fly or fireball or teleport...

    High AC Barbarian

Dude, longbow! Throwing axes are great for flavor, but there's no excuse for this character not to have a longbow. Dex 16, full base attack bonus, and all martial weapons. Seriously. I know barbarians are (for some reason) supposed to scoff at ranged weapons, but we're already breaking...
