D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

Both are martial classes that rely on skill and training. However, both are built around different class concepts. The A5e Ranger is a wilderness survival and exploration expert. The A5e Fighter is a master of martial techniques and weapons.

D&D General Laser Llama's Alternate Druid class

I wonder what he would do for the species in the PHB.

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

While the A5e Ranger doesn't have spells, it does gain proficiency with a number of combat traditions and can use combat maneuvers. Biting Zephyr, Mirror’s Glint, Rapid Current, Razor’s Edge, Spirited Steed, and Unending Wheel. Rangers recently gained the chance to be proficient in the Unerring...

D&D General Laser Llama's Alternate Druid class

IMO, a very good homebrewer of 5e D&D. :) Check out his work. https://www.gmbinder.com/profile/laserllama

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

Whereas the D&D Ranger since 1e has always had access to spellcasting. If the 5e ranger is just a little too weak, then does it really fulfill whatever Ranger fantasy some of its' fans want from it by making it into a Half-caster?

Rangers also use magic weapons and armor when they find themselves in the middle of a combat situation. Most Ranger spells are utility or buff spells. They have only a couple offense spells that can aid them against a magical threat.

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

So, do Fighters and yet no one has really come forward and said that a Fighter should use magic to deal with magical monsters. Why do the Fighters get to ignore this requirement? :p And what about the Rogue and the Barbarian?

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

It might also depend on whether the setting is a Low Magic setting or a High Magic setting. If you were role-playing in a low magic setting, the Ranger would be spell-less and rely more on their skills and wilderness training.

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

Just out of curiosity, but what about the spell-less Fighter? Shouldn't they know magic as well? They're combat experts who will find themselves dealing with magical opponents at some point in their adventuring after all.

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

I am guessing that Laser Llama borrowed this class feature when he was designing his version of the Ranger class back in 2022. :) Ranger's Quarry You focus your senses to hunt as a predator of the wild. Also at 2nd level, you can use a bonus action to mark one creature you can see as your...

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

I can't help but feel that Batman is a bit of a multiclasser here. In addition to being a Ranger, he might have a couple levels in Rogue as well. His title of World's Greatest Detective could be covered by the Rogue's Inquisitive subclass. https://dnd5e.wikidot.com/rogue:inquisitive

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

Why would removing the ability to cast spells from the Ranger affect 5e's magic system as a whole? As for magic being the number one solution to any problem in D&D, it's not. The majority of problems that a party can run into during an adventure can be solved through role-playing.

D&D General Dragonborn as Kobolds: Yea or Nay?

Ardlings, from what I can remember about them, hailed from the Beastlands. The Guardinals hailed from Elysium and they were present in both 2e and 3e. But you are right, their intro was something of a confused mess. They were supposed to be the opposites of the Tieflings, even though the latter...

They could have just brought in an official 5e version of the Guardinals and Guardinal-descended Aasimar for the job. ;) I would have been for this.

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

The difference between a player saying to the group "Trolls are weak to fire" and the same player saying, "My character shouts 'Trolls are weak to fire' is knowledge. If you are an avid D&D player, you are going to own a Monster Manual and will probably have spent a certain amount of time...
