I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

Mostly by splitting species up into heritage and culture, and then letting you mix and match the two to get what you want for your character. I don't think Level Up comes that close to the level of crunchiness that existed in 3e. More crackle, snap and pop than crunch IMO.

D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the 2 upcoming Forgotten Realms books?

That's going to require you to wait and read several reviews of the two books in order to get the idea of what you are not going to like what's in either one of them. RPG books are a mix of stuff the designers think you are going to like and stuff that you aren't going to like. If it's more of...

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

It's even more confusing when it is a Tiefling who is the descendant of a Succubi. ;) Or even an Incubi.

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

Hard to say since we don't have a RL critter that does the backstroke in midair. ;)

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

Chalk it up to WoTC wanting to streamline the species when it came to their appearance and abilities. 5e has quite a number of fiends out there, both official and 3pp.

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

I think every DM and every player will go with that approach. ;) "They're the only dragon with a double joint in their wings."

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

What helps is when the game designer not only creates a fantasy species but also creates their lore as well. 2e had their Complete Book of X while 3e had their Races of X books. A species with a good amount of lore behind them is going to make people interested enough in playing them. I liked...

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

My only quibble about them being color coded is that they aren't being treated as 15 different subspecies. It would be neat if each of them had a signature trait or two that set them apart from one another.

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

The green's new looks certainly made the Green Dragonborn more appealing to me. :)

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

I briefly checked out this old forum thread (2 years before I joined EN World ;)). While I do like the dragon designs that have been around since 3e, I also like it when artists try their hand of making their own takes of the dragons in D&D. Like this Forest Dragon, for instance: It would...

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

The staying power of the Blue, no doubt. ;) TBH, did any of the True Dragons really need a remake of their looks for 2024 D&D?

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

Before the Blue Dragon was redesigned for 2024 D&D, it was one of the more recognizable True Dragons in D&D thanks to its' frilled 'ears' and that massive, bifurcated horn on the middle of its' draconic muzzle. It's still recognizable in 2024 D&D, but its' looks look less impressive to me than...

D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the 2 upcoming Forgotten Realms books?

I think I am going to adopt a wait-and-see approach when it comes to these two books.

The 2014 Dragons vs the 2024 Dragons? ;)

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

Regarding each of the Chromatic, Metallic and Gem Dragons in D&D, was there a version of them that was your favorite? I tend to like the older versions of these dragons.

D&D's The Book of Dragons Comes Out in August

A 3-month video which made many a viewer on EN World (me included) decide to go and get it. ;) As for a review of the physical book, I can imagine we'll be seeing them as soon as the first of us gets their copy in the mail, looks through it and posts it here on EN World. ;)

Especially when they have four distinct Elven cultures to choose from in Level Up. High, Wood, Shadow and Eladrin.

Let's hope that the spectral wings of the Topaz Dragonborn aren't going to be set up backwards as well. :p
