Mostly by splitting species up into heritage and culture, and then letting you mix and match the two to get what you want for your character. I don't think Level Up comes that close to the level of crunchiness that existed in 3e. More crackle, snap and pop than crunch IMO.

Chalk it up to WoTC wanting to streamline the species when it came to their appearance and abilities. 5e has quite a number of fiends out there, both official and 3pp.

What helps is when the game designer not only creates a fantasy species but also creates their lore as well. 2e had their Complete Book of X while 3e had their Races of X books. A species with a good amount of lore behind them is going to make people interested enough in playing them. I liked...

My only quibble about them being color coded is that they aren't being treated as 15 different subspecies. It would be neat if each of them had a signature trait or two that set them apart from one another.

The green's new looks certainly made the Green Dragonborn more appealing to me. :)

Before the Blue Dragon was redesigned for 2024 D&D, it was one of the more recognizable True Dragons in D&D thanks to its' frilled 'ears' and that massive, bifurcated horn on the middle of its' draconic muzzle. It's still recognizable in 2024 D&D, but its' looks look less impressive to me than...

Regarding each of the Chromatic, Metallic and Gem Dragons in D&D, was there a version of them that was your favorite? I tend to like the older versions of these dragons.

A 3-month video which made many a viewer on EN World (me included) decide to go and get it. ;) As for a review of the physical book, I can imagine we'll be seeing them as soon as the first of us gets their copy in the mail, looks through it and posts it here on EN World. ;)

Especially when they have four distinct Elven cultures to choose from in Level Up. High, Wood, Shadow and Eladrin.

Let's hope that the spectral wings of the Topaz Dragonborn aren't going to be set up backwards as well. :p
