    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #3: "New Paladin"

Keep in mind, at least in the last UA pass Counterspell was changed so that the countered spell didn't cost a spell slot. So all the Counterspell is doing is delaying the Smite a round. Which you know what? I'm okay with that. A Wizard desperately spending their magic to temporarily hold back a...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #3: "New Paladin"

Paladins get access to the full Fighting Style list. The Tasha's Cauldron styles are in, including Unarmed Fighting. All the Smite spells work with Unarmed Strike. Well, there's a small but enthusiastic number of people who are going to be super happy with this.

    D&D 5E (2024) All 48 Player’s Handbook 2024 Subclasses

Paladins are empowered by the strength of their Oath, no celestial intervention involved. Clerics align themselves with a deity that embodies some aspects of the cosmos, and some of those are definitely not celestial in nature. Celestial Warlock Patrons are, like all Patrons, powerful magical...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

If you weren't there, you don't know. The forums were flooded with Paladin players complaining about being forced into artificial no-win situations that would strip them of all their class abilities. There were DMs who from all reports made it a personal goal to force every Paladin PC into...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

It feels like there's DMs out there who are hungry to run a "PC gets stripped of their powers" story, and will find an excuse even if that's not the intention of the rules. Remember in the 3e days when it was Paladins being forced into no-win situations and stripped of their powers? Now it's...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #2: "New Fighter"

Not currently at home, what was it again? Extra charges? I can see them leaving that out so they’re not recapping everything. It’s not a huge change.

No reason to talk about what isn’t changed.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #2: "New Fighter"

A few points worth considering. The Push, Sap, and Slow traits are mostly in the 1H weapon and ranged weapon types. A 2H weapon Fighter or a DW finesse Fighter will never encounter an overlap. So the scope of characters who will encounter this is limited. Three is not massively smaller than...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #2: "New Fighter"

It's "Potentially stronger but somewhat random and with very limited uses" versus "Reliable strength and free so you can use it on every roll". I'd say that "better" is half a matter of what the player values, and half how the DM runs their game.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #2: "New Fighter"

You pick one, from the sound of it. A Fighter of 9th level or higher can choose with every hit to either apply the weapon's own Mastery trait, or one of those three. So if you've got a "once per turn" trait and used it on your first attack, you can switch to something else. If you really need to...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #2: "New Fighter"

As someone who gave low marks to the UA version of the feature, I agree. Having sideboard Mastery Traits you can hot swap in as desired sounds way better than just tinkering with your weapon after a Long Rest to use a different one. Less boring, less abusable, and gives the Fighter some real...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #2: "New Fighter"

What timestamp is that at? When they're talking about the Psi Warrior at 32:32 there's a very normal looking freckled red-headed human, just with a little bit of psionic energy flare.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #2: "New Fighter"

Except not, because Sneak Attack requires you either have Advantage or have an adjacent ally and not have Disadvantage. Both of which using a non-proficient weapon would eliminate. Also you can only Sneak Attack with a finesse or ranged weapon, and Rogues already get proficiency with most of...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

My perspective is that if I want a swashbuckler character, all I have to do is make a melee Rogue or finesse Fighter. If I want to color outside the lines a little, maybe a weapon focused Bard or Archfey Bladelock. The rest is attitude and build choices. Nothing about the Swashbuckler subclass...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

There's a list on reddit, and it's pretty much what everyone expected. Everything listed in the UA 6&7 releases, except Psi Warrior replaced Brawler for the Fighter and Soulknife replaced Swashbuckler for the Rogue.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Reading comprehension is a skill not everyone gets proficiency with, and the DCs seem surprisingly high. It's a little like those people who watch a movie and come away with the idea that the villain makes a good point, despite the hero finding the counter-argument that demolishes the villain's...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Two useful datapoints on one of the big mysteries, which is what version of Aasimar we're getting. One is that you can pick your transformation type when you use it, instead of being locked into one particular one. The other is that I believe we get a look at the species art at 10:36 of the...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Sounds like they walked back the freeform Background rules a bit. They're talking about them a lot more as if they were fixed packages, although ones with some choices involved. Not sure how I feel about that, or if freeform is still an official option.
