Wizards of the Coast Reveals Revised Eberron Species Details

Good catch. Indeed, the Revised 5e healing spells lost the "no constructs or undead" clause. Which was probably the reason they pulled back on making Dhampirs and Reborn those creature types, and why they're willing to shift course now. Though, cause and effect, they probably intentionally...

Wizards of the Coast Reveals Revised Eberron Species Details

A handful. The Mace of Smiting gets a bonus against Constructs. Constructs have Disadvantage on saves against the spell Shatter. But conversely, as Constructs they'll enjoy immunity from anything that specifies "humanoids". There's also a few things that specifically exempt Constructs and...

Wizards of the Coast Reveals Revised Eberron Species Details

I'm raising it as an example of why some people object to the archetype. You speak for yourself, not everyone, and other people have equally valid and reasoned conclusions that different from yours. WotC has to try and balance these conflicting opinions, all while designing a fun and balanced...

Wizards of the Coast Reveals Revised Eberron Species Details

Because none of those ethnicities have mechanical game stats attached to them. They're all bumping elbows in the "human" category, nice and equal. Attaching game stats to something is a delicate matter. It makes it an objectively true fact, as far as the game system is concerned. So D&D has to...

Wizards of the Coast Reveals Revised Eberron Species Details

My recollection is that the original 3e pitch was that shifters were watered down lycanthropes and changelings were watered down doppelgangers, both in mechanics and in lore. The monster was the original and the PC race was the derivation. Rising From the Last War offered an updated take on p284...

Wizards of the Coast Reveals Revised Eberron Species Details

To be fair, it's clear that aasimar and tieflings can spring from any rootstock, not just humans. That's why they both have the option to be either Medium or Small sized. In fact, I'm pretty sure the art for the sample Celestial Warlock on p161 is a dwarf or halfling derived aasimar. They've got...

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Page Count, Contents Revealed

Mine too, a little. But they're only 4 pages all together. So it's absolutely a quick recap for people who don't have any better book, and not anything like a full guide to the city.

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Page Count, Contents Revealed

Pretty much. And we've had a lot of people raise the question, should we be paying for an update patch? It's a topic I've chewed over a bit. On the one hand, paying for an update to a book I already own doesn't feel great. But why doesn't it feel great? Because I'm trained by video games to...

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Page Count, Contents Revealed

I half suspect that the Backgrounds aren't tied to Dragonmarks, but to the Houses. Like a House Jorasco background that gives proficiency in Medicine and Herbalism Kit that's suitable for both marked and un-marked affiliates, and maybe gives a choice between a Dragonmark starting feat and the...

D&D General Arcane Subclasses UA Survey is up

I mean, maybe. There's usually a lot of lead time before we see anything at all, even UA playtests, so it's hard to really say for sure. Maybe the staffing changes are impacting quality control. Maybe the flood of options we're seeing means they're being wildly experimentative with the new...

D&D General Arcane Subclasses UA Survey is up

I've been having migraine issues, but I found a window where I felt like I could enter some semi-cogent responses. Though I chose to only submit responses on the ones I felt I had clear feedback for. So I only rated the Arcane Archer, Tattooed Warrior, and Hexblade. Arcane Archer and Hexblade...

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

An Eberron book would have been my first bet for revised Goblinoids, but the early ad copy for Forge said only those five. So my second guess is the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor next year, given how much they seem to feature in that setting and the strong push to make them more distinctly fey in nature.

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

I expect a shifter is more likely. Which means they're finally updating the official look of shifters, which IMO is long overdue. The old look was bland and uninspiring.

New D&D Unearthed Arcana Reveals Two New Subclasses for Monk and Sorcerer, Plus Revamps For Seven More

The survey is open. Your chance to make your input known. Remember to be nice and give constructive feedback. I plan to do it this evening, when I'm awake and have my thoughts in order.

D&D 5E (2024) Snarf's Complete Two Weapon Fighting and Grappling Guide

Monks are better at grappling. However, it's hard to actually be good at it. My hard won experience with trying to play a Monk with the Grappler feat is that it's very unreliable, due to the changes to grappling. On the attacker's side, the DC is now set to spell standard, with no way to cheese...

New D&D Unearthed Arcana Reveals Two New Subclasses for Monk and Sorcerer, Plus Revamps For Seven More

Curving Shot is one of those ones that's really hard to model in a simple damage calculation because it has so many caveats. Yes, it can potentially turn a miss into a hit once every turn. If your Bonus Action is free, if you have a second enemy to attack, if you don't mind spreading your damage...

New D&D Unearthed Arcana Reveals Two New Subclasses for Monk and Sorcerer, Plus Revamps For Seven More

Hmm. A valid argument. I'm not sure I entirely agree; stronger effects with a lower DC is kind of a wash, until you're high enough level to buy Int up. And the resources to buy it up have their own opportunity cost. But I'll admit that some of my reaction is that I'm tired of classes and...

New D&D Unearthed Arcana Reveals Two New Subclasses for Monk and Sorcerer, Plus Revamps For Seven More

Yeah, the glaring lack of any Barbarian or Druid subclasses really stands out. Some variety of "Primal Subclasses" type UA is highly likely.

New D&D Unearthed Arcana Reveals Two New Subclasses for Monk and Sorcerer, Plus Revamps For Seven More

If you break it down, Accursed Shield has two elements. One is a conditional AC boost from being in melee range. This I am 100% in support of. The continual problem with old Hexblade (and Bladesinger too) was that it was recommended you take it for the AC boost and then play them as a standard...

New D&D Unearthed Arcana Reveals Two New Subclasses for Monk and Sorcerer, Plus Revamps For Seven More

Banishing Shot is tricky because the target is also immune to attacks while banished. So the value fluctuates wildly depending on the initiative order. Ideally you want the AA to banish the foe right before their turn, so they lose their action but none of the other PC's miss out on attacking...
