Agreed... I wanted this badly for a long time in 3e and it took forever for even an independent company to do this, so I will be very happy to see this in a full featured app for 4e.

It was just pointed out on Twitter that on page 152 of the Eberron Player's Guide under Stormreach it mentions half-giants and thri-kreen. The plot thickens!

Take a read through the two preview books that were released. While they mention that a digital portion was a piece of the overall strategy, the game design wasn't tied in at all, and all of those things that you mention have other explanations in the design philosophy.
