Forked Thread: ... with an interesting note about 4th edition

That seems like a reasonable theory. Also on the flipside, sites like mine that switched to focus on 4e coverage have seen traffic rates steadily rising. And the 4e category is the most subscribed to category feed on RPGBloggers.

Not much interest in the Draconomicon?

My full review on Critical Hits will be up next Friday. Short review: It's different than the 3e version in that it's solely for DMs, but clearly it's in the same spirit. First half has things taken from older Draconomicon, like dragon anatomy descriptions. Last half more monster stat block...

Tell me about you 4th ed campaigns..

My campaign is a Dark Ages/Lovecraftian campaign, where a corrupt religious organization rules over magic, and the PCs are outcasts hired by this organization to try to prevent prophecies that would bring the downfall of the big empire. It's an almost literal "points of light" setting as each...

Best Version of Call of Cthulhu

Yeah, I also ran into the wall of too many feats based on combat and not based on anything else. It's a great book but was written when d20 was still quite young and it shows. I'm considering a combination of Shadows of Cthulhu and Trail of Cthulhu for my next game.

    H2 Thunderspire Labyrinth

I agree completely with your assessments, Morrus. My party is working their way through this now, and I decided I was going to try to build the dungeons in advance when I could... but after doing Chamber of Eyes and Grimmerzhul Trading Post, I decided they just used too many odd sizes to do...

    Trouble with Skill Challenge Construction

Gelatinous Cube, with fire in place of acid. Also, as is my general advice with skill challenges, ask your players what they want to do, and you can adjudicate some of the skill usage there. For example, I ran a skill challenge based around being chased by a gargantuan blue dragon (they were...

PHB II class roster all but confirmed?

As I understand it, hybrid roles were being toyed with at one point during the design discussions, but eventually they decided against them (for many of the reasons you list.)

Third Artificer At-Will in Character Generator

Third Artificer At-Will in Character Generator

I'm not sure if it appeared elsewhere and I just missed it, but the beta of the character generator includes a third at-will called "Magic Weapon" and it's marked as (PREVIEW). I checked in the Compendium and didn't see it there, and it wasn't in the original Artificer article when I first...

    Character Builder Beta available

So while compiling my walk-through of the generator (located here: Hands-On: D&DI Character Generator Beta | Critical Hits) I made a sample artificer and noticed something interesting: A new At-Will for the Artificer marked (PREVIEW) that doesn't exist on the Compendium. I wonder if there...

What class are you least likely to play in 4e?

With now 3 other leaders to choose from (including the potentially as good healing Bard), I won't find myself playing a Cleric again.

    Dear DDi subscribers...

I've noticed some errors with monsters too- I ran an Otyugh out of the compendium, and a friend in the game who also DMs said to me afterwards "shouldn't it have had an aura?" Sure enough, it had it in the MM but not in the compendium, though other versions of it in the compendium had it.

    Dear DDi subscribers...

Quite happy with Dragon and Dungeon, which have already proved invaluable to the games I'm in. Compendium has come in handy, but I've tried to use it during the game and found the WotC site down, which is very irritating. $5 a month for Dragon and Dungeon is certainly worth it for me, I just...

    WoTC Website Down?

It was a bit annoying for me today. I just bought my year long subscription to D&D Insider on Friday, and then tried to use the Compendium during an adventure I was playing in today, only to find it down the entire time. Bleh.

    Alea Noble

I did a review of it and APG's other release here: Review: “Medieval Bestiary: Anthropophagi” and “Feudal Characters: Noble” | Critical Hits

Are you buying a DDI subscription?

You could link the poll you're referring to :) Inq. of the Week: D&D Insider? | Critical Hits The results are actually better than I thought, roughly 50% adoption rate among 4e players. I'm not surprised at all that non-4e players aren't going to subscribe.

Wolfgang Baurs - Next Open Design project

Man, even as a hardcore 4e player, I think I'd rather see a Modern/Cthulhu adventure from Mr. Bauer. Of course, it looks like you have to be registered on the board to vote anyway, so I won't have to make that choice.

I'm working on my review now- I received an early review PDF from Goodman Games. Hoping to have the review up tomorrow. To answer a few questions, it is GSL. It'll be in print in a few weeks. It does use the "real" names. My impression is that it has a really neat hook for including these...
