    Playing a Warlord sucks!!

We had another interesting complaint from the Warlord's player in our last two games: he finds his abilities are often dampened by the combat areas. For example, there was a fight in a forest (which was counted as difficult terrain) so none of his shifting powers would work. Then there was a...

"You realize, of course, this mean war."

Hey now, I own three copies of that for very sentimental reasons :p

    D&D miniatures arrived today!

I buy around 6 packs of each new set that comes out. Then if I see singles I really want and didn't get for cheap, I'll pick those up. I've been lucky in the past few sets where I've ended up getting the big rare or rares that I want in each set from the packs I buy.

Why the merger of two categories?

Crothian, I'm not blaming the judges. I do think there's a problem when that's the end result, however. And I am a bit baffled that Raiders of Oakhurst (a fine product) was placed there, instead of with something like Best Free Product.

Why the merger of two categories?

Agreed: I've been fortunate enough to come across tons of great RPG sites lately, but it's a real shame that, somehow, the category got merged in with other categories. I mean, just look at this list. I really don't get it.

Why the merger of two categories?

Sorry, should be more clear: the site selected as the honorable mention is a site that hasn't been updated since last November.

Why the merger of two categories?

No kidding, at least that merger makes sense, but two websites, two podcasts, and an adventure? I think that's crazy considering how many great RPG blogs and podcasts have been doing quality work this past year. Next year, I'm going to push every one of the sites on my site's blogroll and in...

Healing during a short rest with leader healing

Cool, that's basically what I'm considering too, though I wonder if the Cleric and Warlord will be unhappy. (And I'll probably be asked why the power only works in combat, effectively.) I might consider giving them a static bonus to all allies' healing surges as a class feature. The...

Healing during a short rest with leader healing

I think this question has now come up in every 4e game I've played: When the characters take a short rest between combat and spend healing surges, leaders can use their healing powers to help, right? As long as the PCs have enough time to, say, use Healing Word twice, wait 5 minutes, use it...

    4E Gods - Where's the crunch?

Mike Mearls said in his talk at Origins that they're working on more stuff to give more flavor to different Clerics. My personal experience with Clerics in 3e was that Clerics often felt the same, based on the optimal way to play them for battle. Though some of the domains might change, most...

DDM - Collect, play, or what?

Played up through Giants of Legend, then moved away from opponents. Since then, I just use them for D&D. I buy 4-6 boxes of each new set, then trade or buy singles if I find it really necessary to own something or just because it looks cool.

Intro adventure in DMG: Too difficult?

We had a really awesome fight against the final dragon, where we thought we would be down and out (after a string of early breath weapon recharges), but then the battle turned around and we were victorious. We did skip an encounter, though, so that may have made a difference. I was really...

    Origins 2008

Here's a link to my Origins coverage: http://www.critical-hits.com/2008/06/26/origins-2008-coverage/ And my flickr set of the con: http://www.flickr.com/photos/davethegame/sets/72157605837306541/ The highlight of the con for me wasn't really related to the con: I got to play in a reunion game...

Do you want online PDF scenarios (D&D,WFRP,PF,etc.) in Landscape or Portrait layout?

It's not some quick process to lay out pages in both landscape and portrait, so I can't see that the extra money would be worth it.

What Free RPG Day swag did you get?

Family Game Store in Savage Mill was the one that didn't receive their pack (and didn't decide to follow up on that.) Games & Stuff in Glen Burnie was the second one I hit that had a limit 2, and even then ran out of some stuff early. I was very surprised to see the absence of some other game...

What Free RPG Day swag did you get?

First store said they "never received their pack." Second store, half an hour after opening, was already out of the dungeon tile and mini. So I grabbed the 4e adventure and Trail of Cthulhu adventure. Decided not to hit the third store in Maryland :)

    Free RPG Day!

I'm thinking about hitting all three participating game stores in Maryland to try to get everything I want. It's a shame that stores have to restrict how many you can take, since I see it as a chance to try new RPGs that I might want to buy.
