D&D General Changing subclasses mid-campaign (or even classes)

I would allow it, too. If a player comes to me with a cool idea, or if their character is genuinely not working out like they want and it's not fun, then I'd let them change it up. I can also imagine a situation existing where I'd resist a character changing for the sake of the wider campaign...

    D&D General BG 1,2, DiA?

They're dated but classic PC CRPGs. If you've played any of Larian's Divinity CRPGs, then they'll be similar. It's the same engine as Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment, too. The Enhanced Editions were fairly well received from my memory. I don't know how easy they are to play on console...

D&D Movie/TV Hasbro Getting Out Of The Movie Business

I did say it was hard, not impossible.

D&D Movie/TV Hasbro Getting Out Of The Movie Business

Sad. It's apparently done very well streaming, but it's hard to be a cult classic or home theatre hit in the modern era.

    D&D General Ideas for a three-hour low-level Thanksgiving adventure?

The PCs are invited to a harvest feast by an NPC or group of NPCs that the PCs know or have helped in the past. When the PCs arrive, they find a large table has been set and filled with the feast. All the lamps and candles are lit, the food is warm, the ale is cold, and fires are crackling...

D&D 5E (2014) How Do You Feel About the Rate of New WotC Game Content for 5E DMs?

I've got no criticism for the quantity. It's the quality that I've been finding lacking.

Seven Views of Mount Cannoli: Subjective Preferences in Geek Media

I have always assumed that the cannoli was more impressive before the invention of the ice cream cone. Or else that distance has done to the North American cannoli what it has similarly inflicted upon the European taco. Turkish delight seems to suffer the same problem. It was impressive before...

D&D General Bought a brick of the 50th Anniversary minis :(

The store around here gets a couple. They don't last long; I think most of them go to pre-orders. I've never gotten one, but I don't make it over there very often. But there sure are a lot on eBay.

D&D General Bought a brick of the 50th Anniversary minis :(

That really sucks. I'm really sorry they put this together so badly. I'm not sure I've seen Games Workshop have deals that frustrating. Ever since Nike did their limited editions, it's you have to be careful when buying stuff. They package things for collectors, scalpers, and whales and make...

    Civilizations, RANKED!

You know, I came in to this thread expecting war, but I did not expect to find someone offering a gift of luxuries. I think I agree with this list, though the above is really all I can say that I played. I did have CivNet (a.k.a., Civ1 + networking support) but we didn't play it long since Civ2...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Oh my God. The Sixth Sense is not a horror movie. It's a supernatural thriller. Please stop putting it at or near the top of every horror movie list.

D&D 5E (2024) Poll) Will the DMG2024 have Infinite Quivers?

OK, I'll bite. What purpose does limited ammunition serve in your games? And do you use gritty realism recovery? From my perspective, ammunition is just about the only resource that you can actually run out of in 5e. Long rests recover hp, HD, spells, and nearly everything else; they're a...

D&D 5E (2024) PHB 2024 Is Hilariously Broken. Most OP of All Time?

I had one of those, too! Only it was on a Barbarian so it also had to account for Rage (well, Whirling Frenzy, in my case) in addition to Power Attack. I hated it! Looking back on 3.x, and I think I see as the gravest sins: Limiting full attack to 5' movement Descending attack bonuses for...

D&D 5E (2024) Poll) Will the DMG2024 have Infinite Quivers?

My vote is that there will be infinite quivers, but they will inexplicably only contain crossbow bolts.

New Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide Art and Details Revealed

I hadn't had a chance to watch video this when it went up. Then I noticed the thread was 150 posts complaining about the artwork which tells me they didn't actually talk about the book's content in any way in the video, so I'm not going to bother. If y'all can't find anything worthwhile to...

D&D 5E (2024) Why are weapon masteries limited?

That's partly because the TSR people seemed to think it was normal or common to have 8 to 12 PCs in a campaign. Plus hirelings and followers that also needed equipment.

D&D 5E (2024) Why are weapon masteries limited?

So, if it had been "you can switch when you gain a level" instead of "at the end of a long rest" then it'd have been an identical feature for you? Did you switch because of gaining a Fighting Style? Or, rather, you choose Heavy Crossbow at level 1 only because it was mechanically better than...

D&D 5E (2024) Why are weapon masteries limited?

That seems to me to be a confusion between mastery and proficiency. Clearly, a Fighter can be proficient in all weapons. Mastery is another thing entirely. Either way, though, a Champion Fighter could have Mastery of four weapons and possess two Fighting Styles at level 7.

D&D 5E (2024) Why are weapon masteries limited?

I should have been more clear. I don't think it's a power level problem to have access to all masteries. I think it's narratively much, much worse. It's called golf bagging and juggling because it's even more unrealistic than switching masteries overnight. I think the limit exists because the...

D&D 5E (2024) Why are weapon masteries limited?

We let Life clerics take Toll the Dead. We let Abjurers take summoning spells. We tell Warlocks they make a permanent pact with an otherworldly patron like Asmodeous, but then say he doesn't have any special ability to influence, manipulate, or compel you. You just get to sell your soul to the...
