How do you start a campaign?

This is true. But, in this case, I was sure that he was quiet and not overly-shy or agoraphobic.

How do you start a campaign?

One thing I did with my last group is to pick the quietest guy at the table and say "so, tell us about your character." I asked a couple leading questions so that everyone had a reasonable idea about his background. The I asked the next guy at the table "tell us about your character and why the...

    B/X Campaign Development

Fief by Lisa J. Steele may be of interest for you as well. It duplicates some information from MMS; it highlights the rural point of view from the 9th to 13th centuries. A review is available. It has a couple of price lists for fines and priviledges. Yes, B/X refers to the Moldvay Basic and...

    B/X Campaign Development

It has always struck me as odd that if you take a dagger and tie it onto a long stick it takes longer to stab someone with it than when you started. I suppose, however, that you have to accomidate the fighter getting within the polearm's wielder's reach. And, we're talking about more than spears...

    E1 Art Gallery: Woah!

#9, 13, 14 - Are these the new inevitables? I really like the look of them and are kind of how I imagined how non-clockwork inevitables would appear. Although, I had them with more crystal.

Eadric et. al. (The Paladin and his Friends).

The amount of detail you have created astounds me. I think a lot about my world, but little of it is ever codified and put on paper as you have done. Bravo.

    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

What needs to be added to the system to fill the lack that you have found? Not changed, mind you. Added. Assume for the moment that the basic rules engine is carved in stone.

    B/X Campaign Development

Not quite what I meant. Are leveled people a consequence of opportunity (you have been squired to a knight, you were accepted into the clergy) or inherent talent? When Bruno picks up his threshing flail in disgust and convinces Abelard the scribe and Connor the villiage sneak that it is "high...

    B/X Campaign Development

How significant are you making the demi-humans? Are they going to be available as choices or are you going to reskin them as different ethnicities?

    B/X Campaign Development

One thing you might think about is the number of "adventuring parties" out there. How many people who are of significant level aren't tied to the society? Are there societies or technologies that might provide a fertile ground for leveled people? Any library of Alexandria or Hagia Sophia that...

How to prevent time wasting in a session?

Set aside an hour for snacks, dinner whatever before the game. We all have dinner together first and that gets all of the visiting done and out of the way before the game starts. That gives them less to talk about beyond the gaming itself. That made a big difference for me.

    D&D 4E My 4e problem.

Wow. Good luck to you. I find that creating a new class in 4e is a daunting task. There are so many powers that you have to define. I have pretty much ripped off your take on the color alignment system a few years ago and am finding it much to my liking, by the way. I call them ideals. I have...

    My first custom monster!

Minor spoilers for some Goodman Games DCCs. I've run my second game of 4e tonight. The first was all talking and no action, and my players were itching for a fight tonight. They are currently going though Sellswords of Punjar and are trying to be clever by avoiding the front door and going...

    Rate The Watchmen movie

Holy crap, that was intense. I just got back from seeing it. There was an amazing intensity about that movie. The violence was intense, the music was intense and the sex was intense. (Malin Akerman pushed my buttons, lemmie tell ya) I enjoyed the movie, but oddly I'm in sensory overload right...

    RE: Reveille

Wow, when I saw that the thread had jumped by 3+ pages since I last checked in I feared the worst. I'm very happy to see you are back among us. Give Mandy a hug from us, she's been through a lot with all of our pestering.

    Monte Cook's new Dungeonaday.com?

Quite true. The concept is something I read on a musician's blog a while ago. An artist, of whatever stripe, needs 1000 true fans to be financially independant. The definition of a true fan is someone who will pay you $100 per year for your products. If you can pull in $100,000 per year gross...
