D&D 3.x New Psionics System: Powers per Day <3.5>

This works in general, but I would have the sorcerer learn powers off the psion, telepath, and kineticist lists; the sorcerer list is identical to the wizard list, and psionicists are noticeably different from arcanists in Dark Sun, so I doubt just using thematically appropriate spells would...

Sleep Poison not a Sleep Effect?!?!?!?!?!

That's twisting the semantics, I think. Anything in the game that does something is an "effect" whether it's a spell, SLA, monster ability, or anything else. If you're immune to sleep effects, you're immune to sleep and deep slumber, a dragon's sleep breath, sleep poison, and anything else...

    Swarm character

Absolutely no bleeping idea. The WotC developers don't tend to account for corner cases (like, say, PCs of any size and type other than Medium humanoid), so your guess is as good as mine as to how it should work. If you want to go with warshaper, I think your interpretations are most likely...

    Swarm character

Necropolitan turns you undead at the cost of some XP and a ritual, so you could build a 7th level necropolitan swarmshifter fairly easily. As far as I know, there are no other good/easy ways to become a swarm. All the spells that would allow it are high-level and obviously only a few times per...

    Psionic Xorvintaal Dragons?

Note that it's actually Chaosvii7 who asked the original question, not me--I can only guess at his motivations for doing so, so I couldn't say whether your suggestions work for his purposes.

    Shades, Teleport, & Planar Binding

While the proofreading skills of WotC writers are legendary for how bad they are, I still don't think it's simply an oversight. First, there's the copy-paste issue--if it had been left out of both shades and greater shadow conjuration, I'd agree with you, but it being in the less powerful spell...

    Bard's without music...??

If you do it properly the risks are almost nonexistent, and a bard would certainly know how to do it right.

    Psionic Xorvintaal Dragons?

That was the original purpose, yes, but given the template's benefits I could see wanting to add those and still keep the psionics as an ace in the hole, even if it is a bit more complex to run.

    Shades, Teleport, & Planar Binding

Consider: If they wanted to limit the types of conjuration spells for shades, they easily could have done so; they did it for greater shadow conjuration, and copy-pasting that again for shades isn't hard.

    Psionic Xorvintaal Dragons?

If you add Xorvintaal to a psionic dragon, I'd say it loses PR (as SR == PR under transparency) but retains its psionics. As Runestar said, though, it would require a CR increase.

    Playing a Diviner

Or stick it in a bag of holding or other safe, portable extradimensional space.

    Shades, Teleport, & Planar Binding

It is; you'll notice that both greater shadow conjuration and shades say "as shadow conjuration, except..." but GSC repeats the restriction on subschools while shades does not. By default, yes. However, note that any character may choose to fail any save, so in addition to intentionally...

    feelings and thoughts on Psionics

You mean CPsi comes after XPH. Either way, the astral construct change is the most-ignored stealth-nerf around, and turning the torc into a more limited cognizance crystal is probably the second-most, so if someone's using the torc in-game, it's much more likely to be the XPH version and not...

    feelings and thoughts on Psionics

The bestow power/Earth Power/torc thing is an older trick, from before MIC nerfed the torc to the point of absolute uselessness. So far as I've seen, as many people use the MIC version as use the CPsi astral construct nerf.

    feelings and thoughts on Psionics

It's not a matter of one being perfectly obvious and one being obscure, but there's a noticeable trend for magic tricks to be more obscure/complex whereas psionics ones are relatively straightforward. There's a difference between the following: "Hey DM, can I take Earth Power?" "What's it do?"...

    Psionic Books: WotC and Others

Spontaneity is irrelevant; all psionicists are "spontaneous" in a sense. Erudites are psions, just a variant version of them.

    feelings and thoughts on Psionics

Actually, I'd put it a different way. It's not that psionics exploits are less well-documented, but rather that psionics has fewer, really bad exploits while magic has many, less terrible ones. There are only about 5-6 actually broken combinations with psionics, but all of them rocket off to...

    Psionic Books: WotC and Others

Well, psionic power points are there the same reason core has Vancian casting: it was that way in prior editions. Using different mental scores is a far cry from using the 3.0 psionics system; if that's the only part you liked, you should have said so. ;) In fact, I'd also like to see them use...

    feelings and thoughts on Psionics

So you're all level 10, then? Okay. Assuming this guy uses a max-augmented vigor and then overchannels a power, that's 22 PP down; he can do that 4 times in a day, possibly 5 if he has a 20+ key ability score, so he ends the day with 50-3d8 temp HP and has manifested 4-5 powers. Woohoo. If...

    feelings and thoughts on Psionics

Herzog, I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing that your problem player is disregarding the primary rule of psionics: Thou Shalt Not Spend More Power Points On One Manifestation Than Thy Manifester Level. The most common reason people think psionics are broken is along the lines of "My 3rd...
