Heh. I love the Banewarrens. It may be my favorite published dungeon ever. It has a good variety of monsters and puzzles, interesting NPC's to interrupt a simple delve, and a clever overall premise. I hope it goes well for you and your players.

Not quite. Subsequent rolls subtract one from the total--but can still "explode" if you roll the maximum on the die. So an exploding d4 does an extra 1-3 damage... unless it explodes again.

This sounds like 3E to me. Is that correct? I made an NPC assistant to a BBEG who specialized in Counterspelling in 3.5E. No NPC was ever hated more or had his corpse more desecrated by "Good" PC's. Ah, good times. 😁

No. Per 2E DMG if I recall correctly. We were teenagers; we followed all the rules.

Initiative was a d10. If you rolled over a ten (die roll plus weapon speed) you didn't get to go in the current round; your total rolled over. But "natural weapons" from most monsters, had a Speed Factor of plus zero. That meant most monsters attacked more often than PC's. My players really...
