    Oots #339

I don't know about this one; Charles Schulz had a pet peeve with people who said his loose style was not like real drawing -- you need to know how to draw really well to simplify that much and still have such a range of expression. For a time, he was working for Art Instruction Schools in...

    What's your Ptolus number?

I'm number 78; ordered pretty early on -- as you can guess! My copy had just the slightest dent along the top, which could be smoothed out and left hardly a wrinkle.

Ptolus Preorders - Did anyone get their free Player's Guides?

I got mine quite promptly. Heck, I hope I got Ptolus as promptly, as I am now hanging with the in-laws, having travelled for a family occasion. I hope it's back home, waiting for me ...

    MERGED COMMUNITY SUPPORTER ACCOUNT THREADS

I have hollered. There are a number of the features that I'd really like to use.

    FLGS in Philadephia, PA?

First, I'm glad to know that Days of Knights is still open in Newark. I lived there from '89-'90, and I really appreciated the place. If you drive just NW of Philadelphia to King of Prussia, PA, there is a great store I used to walk to when I went to Villanova, the Compleat Strategist. Great...

When was the Golden Age of Dragon magazine?

I started reading Dragon at #54, and I've been reading it continuously since then. If you asked me a couple of years ago, I would have said "between issues 59 (the first of the "point of view" articles) and 84 (the end of the first run of "What's New with Phil and Dixie"). The issues just...

    D&D 4E Is there a shift toward 4E in the community ?

I agree; I think this is one of the biggest advantages of 3(.5)E over 2E, you can cherry-pick what sources you want to use with no penalties, and every new book doesn't depend on you having every other old book to be able to use it.

    Ptolus - Support

Cheap as in "free" -- at least for the pdf. http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=11959 If Ptolus makes a truckload of money, there will probably be more, but that would probably be well in the future as I've gotten the idea that every idea Monty Cook has gotten...

    Pope to change D&D cosmology

Sorry. I was refering to the Catholic Church, not D&D, implying taht perhaps Ssendem was official, since I did not mention him ...

    Pope to change D&D cosmology

In the interests of accuracy, I must point out that Ygorl is not, at the present time, considered official, kind of like St. Christopher and modrons.

Which non-core monsters should have been core?

Peryton definitely. For some reason (maybe I was just in rare form) some of these scared the living bejeezus out of a party I was DMing, and I've loved them ever since.

Games you were turned off of and why

I loved the original Pacesetter game. The mechanics were fluid and yet covered enogh to make characters and mosters distint. I had a Chill game at my FLGS that ran for the better part of year. The flow was much more along the lines of "Masque of the Red Death" than CoC, though, and trying to...

RPG Illegal File Sharing Hurts the Hobby

For comparing U.S. prices, the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics has a Consumer Price Index price generator: http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl To crunch some numbers: A $12 1979 PH would cost $32.93 in 2005 -- and the 3.5 PHB has much better layout, paper, page count...

RPG Illegal File Sharing Hurts the Hobby

I agree with Jim Hague's assessment of this situation. Do you think that iTunes would be seeing this level of interest and activity if the RIAA lawsuits had not happened?

RPG Illegal File Sharing Hurts the Hobby

Yes, but ... Thomas Jefferson was also a scientist, and in science, the dissemeniation of knowledge if what determines the value of your work, Thomas Jefferson was also of the age when the question was one of "who got the credit" vs. "who got to use it." Scientists, political philospohers...

RPG Illegal File Sharing Hurts the Hobby

In general, I think that this is true, and disturbing, and yet not germane to the discussion of "Does illegal file sharing hurt the hobby?" Because our shared system of law is not based upon "hits", where I get to do it as long as some other person did it first. The actions of Sony (and...

RPG Illegal File Sharing Hurts the Hobby

I broke uyp the original flow of the narrative because I see this as a constructed chain of reasoning that I can agree with up to a point, and so I wanted to show what I agreed with -- and what I didn't I agree with the first sentence completely. I also agree with the second statement, though...

RPG Illegal File Sharing Hurts the Hobby

Where do get this idea? Consider the thread that was last updated a couple of weeks ago on how many bookstores have moved gaming books to behind the counter because the theft of gaming books are so common. If your logic is correct, it seems that those people who steal books will, "just as...

    D&D 4th Edition Next Year?

I do not agree. Yes, I think that the classes and races are pretty well covered (although I can also see WotC going back to the well on this.) I do not think that the two campaign settings count as completely covered; I think there is a lot of room for region books, and especially city/town...
