What are the traps in char design to beware of?

Well said. It pays to plan at least a few levels ahead when it comes to feats and ability scores ;)

What are the traps in char design to beware of?

On the Fighter side of things... Sure Strike: If you've got anything above a +2 Strength bonus, the trade-off is really hard to justify. You'd be better off taking Reaping Strike (guarenteed damage, even on a miss), especially if you're going 2-hander route. Although for Sure Strike, if going...

Now that 4e is out, are you into it or sticking with a prior edition?

Diving into 4e headfirst and with no 3e regrets, reservations, or restraints. Especially seeing as how what 3e books I do have got very little use, having to give those up isn't a huge loss. Haven't been this eager to play in a D&D campaign in a very long time... since the days of the Basic Sets.

My Big List of Star Wars Saga Ed NPCs

Glad to self-promote :D On a side note, I'm currently working on v1.2, having fixed a few more errors and added some new NPCs and revising a few others based on stuff from TotG and other message boards. If anyone has a particular type of generic NPC (I try to stay away from named EU...

My Big List of Star Wars Saga Ed NPCs

So now that WotC has put out their own Big Book of NPCs with a much more evocative name, anyone care to do a comparison to the breadth of NPCs between the two and how the various versions stack up? (To be fair, don't include stat block errors, as I already know that TotG would take beating if...

SW Saga Ed House Rules... Unleashed!

Just thought I'd put up a thread for us SW Saga players... Dono's SWSE House Rules v2.0 And version 2.0 is now out, and has quite a few odd and ends for most every category, ranging from new feats and talents, new Force powers and techniques, and quite a few other odds and ends. So let me...

    Weapon Help!

    - No on 2h weapons getting extra Strength damage; that's been removed. - Unless its versatile (granting +1 bonus to damage), none. - In short, the greatsword got over-nerfed from its 3.X glory days to the point it's one of, if not the worst of the 2h weapons. There was a whole thread over on...

    Cleave vs. Minions

Yes, which is good as that is probably Cleave's intended purpose; enabling the fighter to goon-sweep as a default combat option and thus playing into his role as a defender. So you can beat on a main baddie and then splat his sidekick in the same attack :D

    D&D Gameday: Into the Shadowhaunt

Yeah, your GM did take some odd liberties, as both times I played the shadow thingy showed up to speak the riddle, for which neither GM required any kind of knowledge check to figure out, and the second one rewarded myself and the Warforged paladin with an action point for figuring it out with...

Which Dragonborn Breath is for you?

Have to go with fire. There's just something... iconic about a dragon-like creature belching out a huge gout of flame at the bad guys :D Even if the other party members are cracking wise about you needing to lay off the mexican food ;)

The fate of one 4e PHB

Well, if one instance I saw was any indicator... A year and a half ago (well before the 4e announcement), I was in a local Borders checking for the latest volume of the RuroKen manga novels, which happened to be near the RPG section. I saw a couple of young twenty-something lads browsing the...

    D&D is Back!

I'll say this in so far as 4e vs 3.x It took a long time for me to actually have fun playing a 3.x game, and that wasn't until the much-lauded/loathed Book of 9 Swords, which actually gave fighter-types viable combat options outside of charge and full-round attacks. I've played 4e a total of 3...

    D&D Gameday: Into the Shadowhaunt

Just got back from playing the module twice at Zombie Planet. Spoilers ahead... First group didn't have too much trouble with the riddle, as we caught onto the Bahamut/Pelor thing pretty quick, just had to figure out the order to put the statues (which was random luck really) Second group had...

The fate of one 4e PHB

To each their own. I just played it twice during D&D Gameday today, and while I got clobbered in the first game, second game I did all the clobbering (dwarves are just freakin' brutal in this version!), and probably had more fun with the one-shots today than I've had in most 3e campaigns and...

    Core Set Vs. Books

Only bonus from buying the gift set is the slipcase, which is a thick, sturdy cardboard. Unless you're ordering online, which from the above posts you get the set at a lower discount price, but at the trade-off of now having to wait longer for it to be delivered vs. the instant gratification of...

    Dewl barsturd swordz yo!

Skip the Bastard Sword and go straight to Battleaxe or Warhammer. Same damage, and doesn't cost you a feat to do, although it is one less attack bonus. Then spend that 1st level feat on Lethal Hunter and watch the damage really begin to pile up ;)

    Ranger Fighting Styles

Nothing at all. Talking over character ideas with a few of the guys at the FLGS while poring through a copy of the PHB, and we all came to that same analysis. Heck, you can just as easily spend your 1st level feat to get Defensive Mobility and have the benefit of both styles if you so choose...

    D&D 4E Shado's 4e Color Landscape Sheets v1.2: UPDATED 6/24

Very nice work Shado. My group is going to be kicking off Keep on the Shadowfell with our own characters (as the pre-gens outright blow) tomorrow night, so these will come in quite handy. And I echo the request for krocha to post the form-fillable version he made (mostly because my handwriting...

    Dewl barsturd swordz yo!

In regards to dual-wielding bastard swords, if the player is willing to spend a feat to do it at 1st level (which means they're passing on fun things like Lethal Hunter), I say go for it. Does it make sense? Not really, but it certainly would be entertaining to watch. Is it realistic? Heck...

The Only Thing That Matters About 4th Edition - Is It METAL?

Is it Metal? http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=229073 I'd say this answers the question. Need to go pass out some beats...
