Second-Guessing Myself: Allow Teleporting While Falling?

That's a good point: it IS awesome. Never let the rules get in the way of unadulterated awesomeness. If you thought him jump-port-stabbing was awesome, let it happen. (Maybe let him know that, technically, the rules don't work that way, so you can reserve the right to NOT let it happen that way...

Second-Guessing Myself: Allow Teleporting While Falling?

Readied actions are immediate actions. You cannot take immediate actions on your turn. So I'm surprised how many people are presenting that as the "solution." Unless you can fly, at the end of each action, if you're not on solid ground, you fall. There is an exception, and it includes jumping...

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

The problem with windmills is that there's a good chance they might be giants; you've got to tilt at them straight away, lest they get the drop on you.

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

Hmm. Fair point. I hadn't considered how astral seal, etc., scales with number of allies, compared to, say, righteous brand. Further reflecting on my leader-striker-striker-striker experience, it wasn't with an all-ranged party, which does come with its own peculiar difficulties, which a...

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

...by which I mean to say: if you like your pacifist cleric, you should be able to keep playing him, especially if changing to a different character won't fix the situation (which would be the case if the DM is constantly running you at level+3 encounters.)

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

I still wanna know how his sorcerer friend is getting a +10 to hit... Also, I'm curious if your DM is running a printed module, without editing it. Those assume a 5-man party, and so the average encounter for 2nd level has about 625xp (125xp * 5) worth of monsters, while for a 3-man, 2nd-level...

From minion to level 1 : the power step

I've also played with the idea of thresholds. Damage below the threshold bloodies the minion (and any damage on a bloodied minion defeats it). I was thinking something like 3+level (which is closer to 1/8th of normal) because my concern was very-low-damage powers having an over-sized effect...

    cross role multiclassing

I played an eladrin fighter PMC wizard from 1 to 16, and took great advantage of the fighter's "mark everyone you attack" and the wizard's area effect and potent defensive utility powers. (Flameburst with enlarge spell and marks providing a -3, and either Shield (or Stoneskin) if you draw more...

Heroes of the Astral Sea/Elemental Choas/Far Realms

I think something like this is exactly what they were talking about when they said the wanted articles about using what's already in the game rather than adding more to it. Expand on this post, and you could submit it to WotC.

    Orc Archer - overpowered?

This power is exactly the same as the Hunter Ranger's at-will rapid shot vs. trick shot: -2 to hit, lose special effect (push 1), hits an area. Actually, hunters have more options and attacks (as is befitting a PC vs. a monster.) So, are hunters over powered?

    Racial flex stats are up!

I'm actually kind of sad about gnomes. Now they really are just shorter eladrin :( I was hoping for int + cha/con; a little retro, since they used to be a +con race. I guess with both warforged and genasi getting int/con though, they thought that was already too many. And really, I can't think...

    n00b DM running KotS

That's another good point. The keep itself really starts to drag after awhile. Except for the encounter w/ Captain McGhosty (I forget his name) and the kinda-sorta-tie-in to Thunderpeaks, there's not much story that gets revealed by those encounters. If I were to run it again, I'd skip several...

D&D 4E 4e, storytelling and player vs GM authority

They could have talked about in DMG2 (or 1 even... or maybe 3?!) Those are, hands down, the best DM's guides ever, but there's always room for improvement. This stuff is out there in the industry, clearly someone at WotC MUST be familiar with it... right?

    n00b DM running KotS

I don't know how much in the web version of KotS was changed. But I hope the kobold lair was, because that encounter is famously a potential total-party-kill: proceed with caution, and give the PCs the chance to retreat if necessary! I hope they added more loot, too, as KotS doesn't give out...

Dragon 397: Letters To The Editor Up

This is precisely what I was thinking as I stood in my FLGS and didn't buy the book. Monk was about the only thing that interested me, and the value/dollar just wasn't there, for me.

D&D 4E How did 4e take simulation away from D&D?

Oooh. That's a much better answer, thank you. I mean, yeah, I admit it, I'm a 4e apologist: When someone asks "How do you knock an ooze prone?" I tell them "Well, you know, just think of it as, some how, the ooze looses its next move-action and grants CA to melee attacks; maybe it gets all...

D&D 4E How did 4e take simulation away from D&D?

Collapsing the skill list and going to trained skills over skill points was the best design choice ever. I agreed to play in a friend's PF game, and needed to make a 10th level character. Spending the 100+ skill points across some 30-to-40-odd skills (much more, actually, since he'd decided to...

Heroes of Shadow Table of Contents

Ah, no wonder I missed it: It was buried under a bunch of Gamma World and fortune card crap (no offense meant... to Gamma World.) As disappointing as the actual race is, I really like the higher-level racial utility powers. I hope we see more of that (and outside of a shadow-specific book.)

Heroes of Shadow Table of Contents

I did not see that. That's very disappointing :(

Heroes of Shadow Table of Contents

They'll be riders, surely. But that doesn't mean you *can't* take them. I've often played characters who took powers from the "wrong" sub-class. And as previously mentioned, Martial Power was worse in this regard. A non-beastmaster ranger really *can't* make any use of beast powers.
