my answer would be take the drow stats as a start (so you have spell like abilities) and have an alternate not drow... then make eladrin and astral elves a new race/species each. have the fluff background connect them but not the rules... the Shadar-Kai deserve this break off too

I don't remember havign pre relase info, but we were not playing D&D anymore when 4e came out, and I preordered the books hopeing to get us back into it... and it did we all got mazzive numbers of ideas we always wanted to play.

the very first warlord we saw in 4e made it a habit of having movie quotes of times someone was down and out and they got pulled up with inspiration, after a few times we realized it was no more or less ridicules then anything else we have done in D&D for the last 30 years

depends on how fiddly you want to get... if I miss by 1 did I miss because of the armor, the shield or the cover? what about if I miss by 7?

the most common was dailys that did miss half damage and mid teir feats that let you add an off stat to a miss if that miss didn't already do damage (like make a str hammer attack, if you miss and would deal 0 damage deal con mod damage.)

nope... you keep dodgeing and weaving and blocking then pass out from exhaustion trying to keep up with the faster stronger better trained warrior... odds of you being able to dodge and block until then are slim, but so too is a fight where the miss damage brings you to 0
