D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

I don't see why? all teh WotC editions are pretty simple rroll d20 get high good... 3e had more math imbalance and both 4e and 3e had bigger numbers to track, but at the end of the day it's really the same concepts if being easier is all it takes FATE would out sell 3very edition of D&D in my...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

I don't know if they actually did in that series (but I wouldn't be suprised) I just made up numbers there. and I am sure it did... I NEVER said that prev editions didn't get a shot in the arm from those sorts of things... but THIS time they all lined up. Tansformers and GI Joe... my little...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

right... because they are two different versions of the game (we used to call versions editions but now that is a bad word)

as I understood tasha's (1 it;'s optional but it already causes mini half edition wars here) you could pick where your stats went to, but the Mtn dwarf monk could move teh 2 +2s to dex and wis... then could switch those bonus weapon and armor profs into tools and languages.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fighter brainstorm

yeah a rage mechanic that adds prof to damage (so no extra chart) and gives resist all but psychic that can be used as a bonus action and lasts until unconsuis or you have no enemy to attack but recharges anytime you take a minute to 'catch your breath' is SUPER EASY you can gain advantage on...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

I'm sorry did pop culture zeitguiest make you think it was a 1 off on 1 show? this isn't "big bang mentioned D&D in season 4 episode 6" this is a ongoing 5 or 6 year series that a reoccurring main theme is D&D... and it isn't alone. So no not a "Single stand alone advertisement" by the way when...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

except in the playtest you just have dwarf with no stat bonus and you take a background that gives you +1 to one and +2 to another. the playtest says to replace the race with the background...aka it means remake the character. the spesfic what? the rules are not teh same for the same sets of...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

what else do you expect us to discus in a thread about systems? Should I talk about the work I put into house ruleing 4e manuvers in compairing black flag to 1d&D? or maybe when I expand the background features to more like world of darkness backgrounds? I mean those are cool house rules to...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

not true for background or race... again lets go to dwarf bard noble... the noble gives me 3 retainers I just lost, the bard class has different way to do inspiration and spells, and no way to reconcile the +2str +2con at best I can take +2 to one an +1 to the other... oh and that is all before...

lol... you see my bias but not your own

no they didn't slayers still marked, they just traded there daily powers for the ability to add dex to damage on all weapon attacks and they got pre selected encounter power of 'power strike' (I want to say the dex thing scaled and there was 1 other difference but I don't have the books handy...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

2014 wasn't a big boom... it was a bunch of (but not all I know) pf1 players coming back and most (again I know not all) 4e players moving over with a few new players... WotC didn't start talking boom until after stranger things...end of 2016. That "and steadily picking up" is stranger things...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

nope called out as optional builds like subclasses. You pick when you make a fighter to make a (now named weapon master) phb1 fighter or a slayer or a knight... and you could mix and match parts of them, and the feats interacted with them the same. cleric more so was just new subclasses
  14. GMforPowergamers

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

without replacing them... they were completly addative. you could use a phb1 fighter and a essentials fighter and there were even rules for mixing them on the same character (taking the power strike as an encoutner power, or tradeing out a power strike for an encounter power) funny story (I...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

could not say it better... in offical sanction Adventures at cons you could play a phb1 fighter and the guy next to you play an essentials fighter and it didn't involve any work... nothing was replaced
  16. GMforPowergamers

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

the only one of these I disagree with is essentials... but lets go with it and say that is true (for the sake of your argument) that makes 1D&D 5.5, and by D&D standard a new edition (weather you like how the word was used up till now or not)

I know my group is not sold on it yet, but is that a common thought?
  18. GMforPowergamers

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

no it doesn't... 5e grew in a huge boom when D&D got brought back into the zeitgeist of popular culture... there is no reason to believe that exact same boom would not have happened if the rules of 2e, 3e, or 4e were in place when the pop culture thing happened.

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

yeah and it is amazing how people claim that the thing THEY want MUST be the thing most do
  20. GMforPowergamers

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

if I can look at two copies of the same class and not need to change anything to make them work togather... so some minor tweeks would be one thing, but my go to example (and something I HAVE to play pre 2024) a mtn dwarf bard with a 2014 background needs to do as much to remake the character as...
