[BDP] Coming soon from Blackdirge Publishing

Thanks. I'm pretty excited about the Animal Archives and Dinofiles products. Paleontology is kind of a hobby of mine, and it's great fun to be able to combine that with my love of RPGs. BD

The Hoplite (think Spartan, Greek, Roman)

The ranseur is considered a polearm in the d20 system, i.e., a two-handed weapon with reach, that's how I meant it. My point about it being funny has nothing to do with the plausibility of wielding it in one hand, but rather that it would be an odd weapon for a hoplite-style character. BD

    Price for Amulet of Deadening

Oh, it could work both ways. I just have a fondness for artifacts; there just aren't enough good ones out there. :) BD

    Price for Amulet of Deadening

Agreed. Resistor, you've got a solid idea here, although I think the mechanics need to be more clearly defined. In addition, I actually like the power level, and I would urge you to take it a bit further and make this an artifact, with commensurate abilities. BD

    Price for Amulet of Deadening

Yeah, I think that number is about right. However, the amulet's abilities are a little too loosely defined (especially the drawbacks) for my tastes, and if they were reworked, it might lower the price a bit. BD

    Price for Amulet of Deadening

How did you arrive at that number? It's pretty close to the average of my two figures. BD

    Price for Amulet of Deadening

Here are two ways to price it. It's basically a continuous use item roughly duplicating the effect of an 8th level spell (create greater undead). The formula for that is Spell level x caster level x 2,000 gp, so your formula is 8 x 15 x 2000, which equals 240,000 and puts it into artifact...

D&D 3.x 4e VS 3.5: What do you plan to do?

I'll be making the switch completely. I'll convert all of my 3.5 stuff (if it's possible) and then produce only 4.0 from then on. Having watched what happened to the publishers that did not convert immediately from 3.0 to 3.5, I think it's safe to assume that if you are going to publish strictly...

The Hoplite (think Spartan, Greek, Roman)

Overcoming the one-handed spear problem is really quite simple. here's what i did in my Master at Arms: Hoplite product: Spearman (Ex): The hoplite is a master of his chosen weapon, the spear, and has received special training in its handling. This training allows the hoplite to handle the...

Metamorphosis: From Dretch to Demon Lord - Ascension Released!

The waiting is the hardest part. Well, I'm in the home stretch of book three. Got about four chapters left to write that will deal with the culmination of the entire story. There'a couple of surprises in the last book that I hope no one will see coming. :) The thing that kind of sucks now is...

    [BDP] Blackdyrge's Templates: Roguish released!

Sure. First of all, most of the abilities added by the roguish template are not found within the rogue class, although these abilities are designed to be synergistic with a rogue-like character or monster. For instance, one of the abilities allows a creature to use the Weapon Finesse feat (a...

    [BDP] Blackdyrge's Templates: Roguish released!

Blackdirge Publishing presents the roguish template, the next installment in the Blackdyrge’s Template series, and the second template in the “synergy” line. The roguish template turns your monsters and villains into quick, stealthy predators. It is ideal for skulking humanoids, such as goblins...

November - What are you reading?

I'm currently experiencing a double-barrelled blast of atheistic goodness. I'm reading Hitchins' God is Not Great and Dawkin's The God Delusion. I'm also reading Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth, which is a good peice of historical fiction. It's not quite as detailed, historically speaking...

Pimp a *NEW* story hour: thoughts

Fair enough. What I should have said was that no writer that posts his material in a public forum does so simply as a writing exercise. BD

Pimp a *NEW* story hour: thoughts

I didn't just put in the word new, I also set down guidelines that all but forbid people to pimp the big story hours, mine included. Look, I'm not gonna tell you to "just write for yourself," because honestly, I don't think any writer does that. We all want recognition and validation for our...

Pimp a *NEW* story hour: thoughts

Um, not to bitch, but why didn't you just post this in my thread? I quick look shows that most of your story hours qualify for "new" status under the rules I set up. I don't think you're being a jerk, but you seem to post the same comments every time someone posts a story hour thread...

Pimp your favorite *NEW* story hour

Okay, since I started this thread, I'll throw out the first pimp. I reccomend Ghostknight's Rule of Darkness. It's well written, and if you like fiends, you can't go wrong with this one. I've commented in the thread numerous times. ;)
